If they can get any value now it may make sense to trade him. Otherwise his value could go to zero soon. Filatov part 2. That being said I hope the flames stay far away

Personally, I'd rather trade Glencross for a 1st + a prospect, or whatever it is we may get for him.
To me, Grigorenko is a lost cause. He has amongst the worst attitudes I've ever seen from such a young player, and even before he was drafted, there were really odd and suspicious rumours swirling around him.
I'd rather take the chances drafting a new player.

Now *THAT* is a trade you make 100% of the time. That would be pure larceny for the Flames.

What about Jankowski for Grigorenko? Would people be onside with this?

I, for one, will wear that moniker without a problem.
The evidence is overwhelming and indisputable...you simply cannot trust them to do what you think is best for your team as a GM. Hence, stay miles and miles away from them. Simply aren't worth the risk.

Why?
Glencross is an nhler. This guy is unproven and could bolt.

I wouldn't want anything to do with a player like this. It's incredibly hard to justify giving up assets for a player that doesn't want to put in the work to be a pro and expects to play on his own terms. There's just no way you can make that work if you are trying to build a team the right way.

Even the Russians who come over to North America to play junior hockey are completely unpredictable. When the going gets tough, they all have a KHL-sized safety net back home - momma's cooking, tax free income and no requirement to play defence or be accountable.
The Flames simply are not in a position to take this type of risk.

In a heartbeat but not sure why Buffalo would want to do it.

Sure but does Glencross help this team by the time they are ready to be competitive again?
If you think Grigorenko is not going to turn out or try and weasel his way to the KHL then I guess not but Grigorenko's potential makes it a steal if you can get him for Glencross.

Because they get something for the asset instead of risking getting nothing.
CBJ got a third and marginal prospect for Filatov because they waited too long

Well I would say at best Jankowski is a marginal prospect with nowhere close to the chance of playing in the NHL as Grigorenko so for me I think it is Buffalo that ends up with nothing in that deal.
You obviously don't like Grigorenko so we are going to disagree. I think if added to the Flames he does a lot more than Glencross to help the team in 2 years and certainly going forward (likewise if Buffalo keeps him much more valuable than Glencross.) Considering that I doubt Jankowski sees any meaningful time in the NHL Grigorneko obviously much more valuable in my eyes.

Grigorenko is a really talented player. His attitude issue likely stems from the frustration of how Buffalo has handled him since being drafted. I don't recall anything prior to the draft about these attitude problems. And I researched him well enough as I was hoping the Flames would get a chance to draft him.
6'3 200 lbs elite skilled center? You gotta take a stab at acquiring one if they become available. Seems really simple for Grigorenko. give him NHL minutes and the whole KHL thing goes away. Obviously feels he done with the minors. Its a tough spot to be in.
Would I move Janko for Grigorenko if Buffalo would? Yeah I would.
I'd also move Glencross too. Or Backlund or whoever the Flames feel won't be around long term to get it done.

Depending on what they'd want for him, I'd over pay for him. If we gave up roster plates that would help the sabres win some games and pass us in the standings, even better!

You can't bring a guy like him onto a team if he plays by a different set of rules.
How would all of our other prospects feel if their teammate gets special treatment, and can play on the big club even if he doesn't deserve it? It would throw the whole team dynamic off and would cause internal tension that you just can't have on a rebuilding team.
No thanks.

He dropped in the draft from potential top 3 to 12th. There were a lot of scouts who thought he took the second half of the year off and his first half/second half PPG splits were really odd.

David Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod 1m
I can tell you Grigorenko's priority is to be an NHL player. He's wanted to be an NHLer well before his draft year.
Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod 2m
With Grigorenko not reporting to Quebec (QMJHL), Sabres & his agent need to figure out a game plan. Too early to trade him? Maybe/Maybe not.

What's Burke's track record when it comes to young Russians anyways?
