Grigorenko refuses to report to the Quebec Remparts. Update: Decides to report
This morning the Sabres assigned Grigorenko to the Remparts, but he refuses to report:
http://blogues.lapresse.ca/remparts/...-les-remparts/
According to the NHL/CHL agreement he cannot play in the AHL or NHL this season:
Quote:
Players drafted and playing for CHL teams are ineligible to play in the professional minor leagues (AHL, ECHL) until they are 20 years old (by December 31st of that year)
|
Quote:
If the player is assigned to the CHL after October 1, he was forced to be there for the whole season until his team was eliminated (baring an emergency injury situation for his NHL team).
|
His NHL contract should in theory bar him from playing in the KHL as there is an agreement between the two leagues not to sign a player with a contract in the other league. However, the KHL has been to known bend rules for high profile Russian players returning home.

This is why I wouldn't even consider drafting a Russian in the first 2 rounds.

I think if you draft a Russian you must play him as an 18 year old, or else don't draft him.
How did the Sabres not find room for this guy?

He has been that bad this season. He can't hold a roster spot on the Sabres.

Man oh man. Kids these days.
And they say my generation has entitlement issues. Doesnt he still get NHL money on his ELC because they burned his first year?

It's the Sabres! Play him and finish last or risk losing him for good.

Yeah, I dont see what they have to lose other than perhaps a bit of organization structure.
Ie. Playing a kid who is clearly in over his head, it wont do wonders for his development and it sends a bad message to other under-performers that their play doesnt matter.

True but he can practice with the big team and you can limit his ice time.
Is he much worse than Nichuskin? A year older too.

Yeah he's been awful. Lazy, disinterested, no effort. Ted Nolan won't have any crap like that on his team. Not surprised he refused to show up.
Oh well, guess it was worth the risk at that point. Happy we made a safe pick with Girgensons two spots later that is so far playing out well.

So when he gets in a slump and Burke tries to send him down he can refuse to report to Abby? Pass. At least Baertschi reports and doesn't pull a tantrum.

Pass on both, the kid has been brutal and he has a serious lack of give a crap in his game.
I'm with some others where my trust factor on Russian players lately has been eroded and I wouldn't waste a high pick on one unless I was sure that he was what I wanted.
Especially with the KHL paying exceptional tax free dollars, you might burn a first on a player and never ever see him.

I am not saying that is what we should trade for him I am saying that is what it would take to get it done.
The Sabres aren't going to want our crappy veterans or second tier prospects.

Unless you get them for dirt cheap or free, just say no to Russians. It's not worth the headache dealing with all their drama.

I'd love love love for the Flames to trade for Grigorenko. He's only 19. I'd rather Grigo than S.Reinhart. But the Sabres would be foolish to give up on the kid so early. But if they do, the Flames should be knocking on Buffalos door.
Hey Look! More Russia-phobes!
