Change will happen.. And I can't wait. Like some people have said, we still need veterans for leadership, and not trading all of them away. However, we have way too many veterans playing on our team right now. I want some more of our AHLers up here to show us what they got. Maybe some will turn out like Byron, maybe some won't pan out well, but we can't find that out if we continuously play useless veterans. We have so many good prospects, and I can't wait to use them in the future.
We don't need McGrattan and Westgarth playing in the same game... And definitely not playing on different lines. Like I just said, I want another AHLer to show what he's got.

Highly likely the person you are celebrating your intellectual superiority over is either a child or mentally ######ed.
So yeah, impressive victory. Tea bag away.
On topic: There is not way this same team tales the ice against Pitts.
Sit some vets (Stempniak and Butler maybe), bring up kids like Billins and Street as reward for the their all star awards.

I agree with what no one has said. Let sleeping dogs lie and quit giving screentime to an obvious troll.
Goingng out of your way to reply and talk about an obvious troll is itself trolling and looks dumb.

I agree with bringing up some Heat players. Nobody else can score, what do they have to lose?

Unfortunately this is the year we have to "Keep calm and suffer". There are no quick fixes, where the Flames are now is the direct consequence of a sequence of quick fixes.
The picks for players return really depends on how deep people feel this and next years drafts are. A 1st round pick this year may well be worth less than last years 1st.
Realistic Trades
I can see Cammalleri going to LA for a 1st. Daryl seems to like him from various quotes and they could use him in a natural sniper role.
Stemp could help an eastern bubble team like NJ, Rangers, Ottawa; gamble a 1st in a weakish draft on him going on a change of scenary hot streak.
Stajan, tricky one this, he's not going to get a team into the playoffs but they could try to sell him as a depth 3rd liner to a genuine playoff contender.
Needing Burke Magic
Might be able to flip Westgarth for 3rd/4th to a playoff team needing to add the T word.
Buttler for a 2nd to a team out east.

I would maybe make a small move at most right now. Otherwise continue working on deals for the vet UFAs as the deadline approaches.

I'm going to go with New Era here, it's not really my place to post that sort of stuff in here. At least not on the actual message board.
All you need to know is that he is now serving a lifetime suspension. So, use your imagination, it was roughly THAT entertaining.

I just hope none of the pending UFAs get injured before they are dealt.
Interesting game of getting the best price vs. Being able to make a sale. Sometimes it is prudent to take a lesser return to ensure you get something.

It took 3 years for us to admit we needed a rebuild. Rebuilds, by their nature, demand that we be take our time, being patient, and waiting for opportunities as they come up to gradually build a winning team.
I think the 04 sudden burst of success was an unusual, one of a kind phenomenon, and kind of spoiled many into thinking success could happen overnight. However, in reality, it normally takes much more time, with the gradual development and addition of key players.
A lot is riding on Burke, and I wish him every success in guiding us through that GRADUAL process.

Anyway, before your bravado to back up your ridiculous claims makes you do something stupid like try to make several $100 bets, just look at some facts. Over the past 2 years, 5 players have fetched a 1st rounder in a trade:
Thomas Vanek
Bobby Ryan
Cory Schneider
Some Iginla guy
Jay Bouwmeester
Now, do you really think that Mike Cammalleri, the same guy who hasn't scored 50 points since 09-10 is going to fetch a 1st?
Sorry I forgot Jordan Staal.

People act like 1sts are valued the same each year. Last year clearly GMs were less willing to give up 1sts - because the draft was considered really good. I bet we see more 1sts move this year because it isn't great.
Let's remember Paul Gaustad netted a 1st. Paul f'n Gaustad.

Yes, Gaustad netted a first. But that was a bad trade by the Preds. It should not be used as the benchmark to establish the values of players at the trade deadline. Not unless you want to set yourself up for disappointment.

I'm actually shocked at how many people think 6 shutout losses in 11 games is acceptable and just "part of the rebuild".
The Flames have never ever suffered through anything as embarrassing as this.
I read something about the "kiss of death" ie after a GM gives a failing coach a vote of confidence, said coach is generally fired a month or so later. Maybe someone knows where to find this correlation, cuz a quick google left me empty handed. Burke gave his vote of confidence on the 12th of December.
I suspect that Hartley won't make it through the season, out of respect for the fans and ticket holders.
Before Feaster got fired everything looked to slowly be happening for this squad. Ward would have been a perfect fit to coach under the makeup that Feaster was developing for his team.
With Burke, I don't know what happens. You likely swap out one dinosaur for another in an attempt to get "tougher to play against."
So far Burke "tougher to play against" mentality has simply been "tougher to watch".

A tidbit on why coaches aren't getting fired at the moment from Friedman (related to Winnipeg):
Jason Deforest@FAN960Jason3h
Friedman on Jets: "If the coach was going to be gone, he'd be gone already. Teams don't think there's a game-changing coach available."

I think maximizing trade value all comes down to finding the right fit. And not having Jay Feaster as a GM. Burke has been good at both of those things. Kaberle was a difficult fit, but he was eventually able to find one and absolutely fleeced the other team. And on the second count when he found himself with a GM who literally WAS Jay Feaster, he was quickly able to change that into a situation where he did not have Jay Feaster as a GM.
So he appears to have a solid grasp of the fundamentals.

Whats the advantage in firing a coach right now? Will it result in more wins? Suck it up and wait for a good long-term candidate. This season is a write-off.
