On the contrary, this IS rock bottom, but not maybe in the "you can only go up from here!" sense.

When you're rebuilding club gets shutout 5 out of your last 7 games and looks awful doing it? That's rock bottom. Expect the team to improve, this is as bad as it gets, but don't expect this to be the only time the Flames touch rock bottom.

I have been a die hard fan of the Flames, like a lot of other people, since they arrived in Calgary. I have also been a die hard fan of the Kansas City Chiefs for over 20 years. I mean, I live in Red Deer Alberta and have season tickets not only to the Flames but to the Chiefs as well. However, is this something to be proud of? How much time and money do I waste every year devoting myself to two franchises that seem to just flounder around not really accomplishing anything, ever?

Rock Bottom....really, do you not remember The Young Guns......this will get worse before it gets better.

Do you not remember 1999 & 2000?

I think we are a long way from rock bottom The thing to do is focus on the positives:

1. We have Burke

2. An ownership with deep pockets and willing to spend, when the time is right

3. Many good young players coming up

4. A potentially great opportunity at the draft

5. some good trading pieces

6 players willing to work their guts out each night

7. etc.

Did you really think it was going to be better than this for the next couple of years? We have some good building blocks and should be getting some really good draft picks but as far as the NHL team, it has a LONG way to go before being a playoff contender again let alone a Stanley Cup contender.

I always question people like you and how much you love the team, Everyone in the world new what was going to happen to this team for the next few years, yes the losses suck but as a fan just enjoy the wins and see what direction the team is heading. It's only been 4-5 months what are you going to be like in 2 years

Remember that very well. However, I don't remember the Flames ever being this low in the standings. Maybe I'm just splitting hairs. Sucking is sucking. At least the Young Guns era had an excuse. We couldn't afford to keep or acquire good players. Now the excuse is rebuiding. I think that is just a fancy word for failing.

This is basically it.

You don't really get any worse than playing more games in which you're shut out, than games in which you manage to score a goal.

This is rock bottom. The only question is how long it lasts.

This team is on pace to be worse than any of the Young Guns teams. They're on pace for 67 points. The worst season the Flames have had was in 97/98 when they had 67 points, but there was no shootout then to inflate points totals.

What did everyone expect?

Kipper made this team look much better than it was. Take him, our top scorer in Iginla and one of the top D-men in Bouwmeester away and it was bound to happen.

Last year a bunch of you were hoping for a high pick, and some were even annoyed that we got hot at the end and didn't get a lower pick. Make up your minds!

I don't think we are at rock bottom yet. I still think Edmonton will pass us and we will may be in the running for last depending on what Buffalo does.

No one should be surprised or upset where the Flames are. They need to acquire some high end prospects. Like Burke said the team is going to have a high draft pick and they need to make sure they get it right. I think the biggest message at the start of this rebuild was the fact we were going to try to avoid the Oiler motto of tank now, force the kids to the front line and cups are sure to follow. The team needs to compete and I suspect we will see that work ethic return once Burke moves some vets and guys like Knight, Billins, Hanowski get a shot with the big club

Honestly, this is better than the young guns era...that was terrible because the flames would get to 13th or 14th in the standings, then win 5 in a row to get to 10th...that's not going to happen this time around.

It's going to get worse, and quite frankly, that's a good thing. Instead of a decade of living in the grey area of no playoff and a mid-first round pick, this is the right way to suck.

Loser points were not available in the first two of those years, and they weren't as freely available in the last two.

We were 21st/26 teams in 1996-97
22nd/26 in 1997-98
21/27 in 1998-99
22/28 in 1999-00

28/30 in 2013-14

This is, without a doubt, the worst performing Flames team in history in the standings.

But we all should have expected that.

Also, there is almost literally no possible way for it to get worse than the last two weeks. However, we were never as good overall as how we started this year, and we are not as bad as how the last few weeks have gone. We will inevitably go on a run of mediocre or even good play and the final result for this team will balance out somewhere in between the two extremes..

Oh sunshine, we're not even close to rock bottom yet?

think of it this way, the torture for next year is going to make us look as fondly back on this season as staring at a picture of Kate Upton's boobies

You're missing the picture. Rock bottom isn't referring to this season, not even close. Rock bottom is referring to our current state over the past few weeks. This is quite literally as bad as any team could play.

You're right in the sense that we may hit it multiple times next season, but let's not discount how wretched this team has been over the past month or so.
