Top 3 pick is pretty much a lock at this point.

Yeah - and a strong chance of winning the lottery.
Ekblad would be cool, but I would love to have Reinhart on the team.

Problem is a top 3 pick isn't a lock at all

Is it worth keeping Monahan up here right now? might as well send him back and the 67's can trade him to a contender.
|
Sending him down now after not sending him to the World Jrs would be a ridiculous move and one that I really doubt is being considered.

If Monahan was eligible for the AHL I'd say send him there, but sending him to the OHL at this point would be real dumb.

Talk about horrible prospect management.
Keep Monahan up, let him play in different situations and learn the game at an NHL level.
If Burke sends Monahan down now then he deserves to be fired. He has not looked out of place, and is one of the top scorers on the team.

Married life has taken alot of my Sports watching up this year but I was at the game and I have a few questions.
When did this Flames team start to think that behind the back passes were cool?
When did Hartley think McGratton and the other tough guy deserve actual playing time and not 5 minutes a game?
I was at the last Blackhawks game and even though we lost the game was fun to be at. Yesterday was just a bore and I only stuck around until the end to see the St Louis team.
Ill be at the game on Saturday, hopefully they show some more heart on HNIC than they did last night.

I'm actually quite suprised that so many people are so affected by this. We knew we were going to see a rebuild season, we wanted it, we should be fully accepting of what is happening now. There is actually nothing wrong with this season, its all going according to plan. All we need to understand is that as each game ticks by, we get a tiny bit closer to being better (eventually). I look forward seeing the Flames pick their highest draft pick in franchise history.

Only thing I can say is the team is in a funk right now and it will be a hard hole to get out of. Hartley is clearly out of ideas of how to reverse the tide which is why he is playing the goons more.
The only example I can give is Philly at the beginning of the year, they were horrible and it took them a while to get out of their funk. The only bad thing is that Philly is a much better team than we are, so it's hard to say when the Flames will work themselves out of it.

These growing pains should be remembered in the future. This is what an unbalanced team with too much grit/toughness and not enough skill looks like.

I don't know if you watched the game last night, but this team has neither grit/toughness nor skill. St. Louis manhandled the Flames. My wife commented that it was like watching a senior high school team play a freshman team - physically/skillfully the freshman team cannot compete.
Last night was a perfect illustration of where the Flames need to be aiming (team wide toughness - not just two goofs running around on the 4th line adding little) and how far the Flames have to go.

It serves as a really good reminder of what a properly assembled team (The Blues) look like with size, toughness and skill.

I think most of us are in line with what you have said, specifically the bolded part--I certainly am. I submit two reasons for the frustration:
(1) The team has showed flashed of brilliance, including an up-tempo skating and passing (cross ice even! Not just dump-and-chase all the time!) style that we haven't see for a long time, and;
(2) It's easy to like the majority of these guys because they're trying really really hard. It's fostered a kind of "We're all in this together" mentality amongst fans as well as the team.
Because we've seen the brilliance, and because we like them (and their effort), we want to see them earn positive results. It's a tough conundrum because, like you've said, the reality is they actually should be losing for long-term's sake.
Plus, it's important to keep the mentality of winning associated with the team. Once the losing culture has set in, you start getting the kind of team whose management uses their own personal Stanley Cup rings as evidence to support arguments that they know what they're doing.

This team was built with too many small skilled players we don't have any grit

I recall them being one of the worst teams in the league around 2004-2009. They had their share of high-mid level picks.
