Ward has been mediocre at best for many years now and hasn't seen the playoffs since 2009.
Brodeur was horrible at the 2010 Olympics.
Giguire is a back up at most.
Crawford is on arguably the best team in the league and is putting up much lower numbers than Luongo and Price.

Yes, Crawford is the #1 guy and is better than Loserongo. I have said that Fleury is like Jekyll and Hyde and I understand why he wasn't picked. Brodeur is done for the Olympics but I do chuckle that he made to the SC Finals a year after the Canucks run. I don't see Luongo lasting that long. You're right that Ward hasn't been in a playoff game for 4 years and but he has yet to lose a game 7. I picked Mike Smith to be the 3rd goalie.Quote:

Why does Canada have 1 captain and 3 assistant captains? I believe every other country goes 1 + 2? Correct me if I'm wrong though

He did let in the game tying goal with 25 seconds left that sent the game to overtime. That is something Fleury didn't do in game 7 of the 2009 Finals and helped his team hang on to the 1 goal lead.Quote:

That also happened 4 years ago. Pronger, Iginla, and Crosby were the alternate captains. The 2006 and 2002 teams also had 4 As and the 1998 team had 3 As. The 2010 US team had 4 alternate captains. Rafalski, Suter, Brown, and Parise.Quote:

I don't want to be on Luongo“s side but, the defense didn't play that well either on that tying goal. The pressure was huge, Kane's shot was pretty surprising, and no one cleared that rebound. Can't remember at all how the 1st goal was made though on him.

Alright, thanks, so, is there a limit how many A's you can have? I believe Finland's always gone 1+2, if my memory serves, probably doesn't.

Yep, Finland along with the other Scandinavian and European nations do the 1+2. I don't think there's a limit but it does seem strange that Canada and the USA are the only ones doing that.Quote:

Smith is a product of a system like Bryzgalov before him. And the Fernandez/Roloson duo under Lemaire in Minny. Sv% under stifling systems. Colour me skeptical.

Checked a youtube highlight, Kane took a shot that Kesler tipped in. Kesler snuck through the defense.Quote:

Who is Finland going to start?

Good chance they start Rask, but Niemi is having a solid year as well so it's tough to say.

I would think Rask is who they have in mind, but all will get at least one game and you play the hot hand.

Hope he's the first forward alternate. Gio obviously for D.

Thought Duhatschek had a interesting pre announcement comment Re: goalies. 3rd guy is there for a single circumstance. If in the gold medal game, your #1 was injured and your #2 was sick you need a guy who can come off the bench ice cold, with zero tourney experience and steal the game. I.e. the 3rd guy is picked based on competitive fire.

In 2002 it was Ed Belfour. Hard to argue.

 This year Smith.

I would think Harding might be the better option then, having been a backup for most of his career...

Canada probably as 3 or so D on standby. Same for forwards and likely 1-2 in net.

Well according to TSN, Hockey Canada told Gio he's next in line.

I find it interesting that Gio is a reserve and yet Phaneuf hasn't been considered for this team.
