He's hurt and probably won't play this season from what I've read here in this thread.

I'm just trying to figure out if they are worth anything. Some advanced stats are pure garbage IMO.

Where did you dig up those stats?
Corey Pronman retweeted it out earlier today... the guy updates the numbers regularly.

I thought I read here and there that Nemisz was actually a strong leader on the team....maybe they are missing him...

I know Ward was relying heavily Nemisz, Byron and Bancks for the core of his leadership. Of course, two of those guys are gone, so perhaps the Heat are lacking direction and leadership. Who knows.

The Heat are like the Leafs. They were riding extremely hot goaltending to start the season. They aren't out shooting their opponents or outchancing them by any degree if ever.

Their pace was unsustainable, and this plummet was predicted a while ago.

Well, it's not exactly a plummet yet....but will be if they don't improve.

Anybody think that BIG part of the problem is that some of the teams leading scorers are rookies who are not only used to much lighter travel schedules, have also already reached their usual full season game loads?

Knight, Hanowski, Granlund, Jooris and Ortio only ever played 40-50 games over a full season in college/Europe in their careers previously.

I think that is a good part of the problem, but not all. The team chemistry has been played with because of the injuries to the big club as well. Movement up and down takes it's toll as new players have to be brought in, others playing more minutes than they are used to or should play etc. Ferland now out after he was getting hot. This all plays into team chemistry and it may be out right now. Now Breen has to be placed in, Sieloff is on his way back which may create a log jam on D meaning someone being cut or demoted further?

It may just be part of the 'ebb and flow' of a season. I will wait another 10-15 games before really thinking the Heat were playing over their heads and are coming back down to Earth. People may be right about that, I just prefer to not freak out until there is a substantially larger sample size.

Well this is essentially what happens when you have an AHL team full of young players. It's a tough league. They were most definitely playing well above their teams skill level. The winning was buoyed by amazing goaltending and Jones playing the best hockey he has ever played.

When the Heat lost Jones, Byron and Horak, they lost heir three best/experienced possession players.

This is the issue - Jones and Byron were their two best players. Losing them is going to have an impact.

Also, it's a long season. Team success ebbs and flows. People need to relax a bit with the doom and gloom.

Well you predicted that they wouldn't be very good this year, so...

Chad Billins and Ben Street were named to the AHL All Star Team today: http://www.abbotsfordheat.com/news/r...article_id=708

Skills Competition takes place Feb 11th. All Star Game will be Feb 12th where the AHL All Star Team will face off against Färjestad BK, a top Swedish league team.

It's especially impressive to have two Heat players named to the All Star team because there were only 20 players named in total, and only 16 teams represented.

Abbotsford, Manchester (LA), Springfield (Columbus), and Texas (Dallas) are the only teams with 2 players named, and no team has more than 2. 14 teams (including OKC and Utica) have no players going.

What, but but something special, all that young incredible generational talent. Klefbom next great Pronger type defenseman.

I'm shocked people, we're through the looking glass now.

Oh and

I haven't been paying much attention to the Heat. How is Sven doing since he was sent down?

He has been getting a lot of truculent puck touches.

He has actually been getting better. He popped onto a line with Granlund as soon as he got sent down, and suddenly Granlund stopped getting any points. However, things are back to normal and I think Baertschi just had to adjust a bit. 2 goals in his last 2 games. Had a first stretch of 5 or so games without any points.

Ward said that Baertschi is behind a lot of players at the moment, but feels he will be fine. I am sure he will have a very strong second-half.

20-6 were the shots in the first period. Ugh. Deja vu.
