Burke says Flames have made no promises or decisions about Gillies yet:

http://www.providencejournal.com/spo...-s-gillies.ece

Quote:
"Obviously he's had a terrific first year and a half as a Friar. And there's no reason to think that that won't continue.

"I know there's a lot of speculation that he's going to be asked to turn pro after the season, but we have not in fact made any determination yet as to his status. I met with him (Monday) and told him that. We have not promised him that he's being offered a contract at the end of the year.

"We're going to wait and see how the rest of the year goes. Certainly we're happy with his play. He's a big guy. He stops the puck. He competes. He's technically sound.''

No need to rush him imo. We are going to suck for a few years yet, maybe one more year in college wouldn't hurt him? Then let him turn pro and see where he's at, start in AHL and then see how he handles that before even thinking of having him on the big club. Goalies are like defensemen, they typically take longer to reach NHL level.

Hmm. Is there much point to gillies playing another year with Providence?

He never said they wouldn't sign him. They said they weren't making any promises. No promises is a good thing.

If he continues his great play all the way through the season no doubt in my mind he is signed.

Nothing about Janko or Gilmour? Maybe the reporter never thought of asking about them, but it would be interesting to read what B.B. thinks of them.

Reporter says he has Burke quotes on Jankowski and Gilmour but plans on publishing them later in the week.

Any reason he would do that? Burke ask him to wait? Or just because the focus of the story was Gilles?

I see him playing one more year, no point in rushing him.

Let Ramo, Berra, and Ortio compete for the net next season. The top 2 play in Calgary, the third starts in Abby.

Maybe we will end up being like Anahiem or LA where we have too many legit NHL goalies that all have the potential to be starters...

After all the years of horrible backup goalie performances it is kind of refreshing to have 4 solid goalies in the organization. Even Berra and Ramo have proved to be at worst backups.

What's that tweet all about?

6 out of 8 tries and only one to survive?

I had no idea that two of our top prospects were also figure skaters. Thank you TSN for the misleading headline.
