i think it's absolutely hilarious that taylor hall and coach eakins feel there's a "grieving period" at the shock of him not making team canada. What a joke.
I wouldn't have Hall on the team either, but given the choice, I'd take him over Nash or Carter.
Whether or not any of the teams took the right or wrong players with parity at an all time high this tournament is going to be incredible! I cant wait!
Hall's interview on TSN this morning made it pretty clear he wasn't expecting to make the team and figured it was a long shot. He was still obviously disappointed, but not surprised.
Can't hold these coiler young guys accountable for anything ... even not making team canada he blames his parents stupid oilers ( possibly green text as im not sure if eakins was joking or not)
Assuming Team Canada's preference to pick players at their natural position, Hall had a chance as LW. However, it isn't exactly a snub when you look at his overall game and the players they took instead.
Have I been missing something when it comes to Subban? Starting a month ago or longer it was his picture at the top of TSN 's Web page, "asking" fans if they think he will make it.
Then on any slow news day, there he was again. With the last stretch of games, on there again with the "last chance to make an impression" tag.
Now the team is announced and there he is again on the top of the page, saying "no more debate" with the actual article about the rest of the team relegated to a secondary article.
Almost as if TSN manufactured any sort of debate if there was any, and are almost patting themselves on the back with his inclusion.
Whatever it is, certainly no one else that I saw got nearly the attention he did from TSN so blatantly in the last month with regards to the Olympic team.
Here is a Breakdown of FO% amongst the various C's or C/W's on the team..
In order of proficiency
Bergeron - 62.1 %
Toews - 56.8%
Crosby - 51.4%
-------------50%
Duchene - 48.8 %
Tavares - 48.3%
Getzlaf - 48.1 %
Winger/Center :
Carter - 270 FO's Taken - 54.4 %
Stop Putting Bergeron on Wing in your lineups... He will be playing Center. You might see Carter on Getzlaf;s line taking draws at times. But.. You have to have good FO guys, especially in your own zone. Tavares will be wing due to his lack of FO ability compared to others.

They should just take the highest scoring players and play them out of position, completely ignoring chemistry or anything else that actually matters.
Yeah. I'm glad the fans don't pick these players. I don't agree with all of the selections but the execs have scouted the players, know them, have analyzed the selections to death and know how all the pieces will fit together. They may not nail every choice, but I'm comfy if they are.

They could always put a guy like Bergeron on Tavares wing and have him take the draws.

Subban was one of the most talked about guys here and on Sportsnet as well.
Any time the reigning Norris trophy winner is on the bubble to make the team it is going to be a story.
It wasn't a TSN made up thing it was a real issue that many fans were talking about.

Nothing is stopping him from still taking draws if he plays on the wing with Toews and Sharp.
In fact the fact that Toews line will be on for important defensive zone draws it isn't a bad idea to have both guys out in case one gets tossed or if there is a preference for one side of the ice or other for the draws.
I think Bergeron will rotate on that line and possibly others but think that having him with Toews and Sharp to face the Sisters line and AO/Malkin line is much more valuable than worrying about FO's that he can go take no matter what line he is on.
Personally, I'd had skipped on Hamhuis, Subban on the back end replacing them with Seabrook and another (not necessarily Gio but someone other than hamhuis).
On the front end, replace Marleau with M.Richards as I feel you can never have too many of Bergeron or Richards type players.
Neal for Nash. Giroux for Kunitz. Other than that, I am glad Carter made the team. Some may not like it but the guy can score and he kind of got screwed last time with his ankle injury. He will be awesome.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't it Getzlaf who had the injury? I thought Carter was supposed to replace Getzlaf, but then at the 11th hour, Getzlaf was cleared to play.
