The PS4 version? One of the best sports games I've ever played. I'm really excited for the FIFA franchise when it comes to next-gen. The physics engine is already unreal. I have some minor complaints about the ridiculous rubber-band AI, and the passing is still shockingly erratic, but overall it keeps me hooked.
Madden, as EE mentioned, is a complete disgrace. I'm disgusted with myself for purchasing the PS3 version and then getting the PS4 version for Christmas. There are some interesting new animations, but the players look like they were imported from early 00s Madden. They honestly look better on the PS3. I'm probably going to try and trade or sell Madden and just hold out until some more titles start hitting the shelves.
This may also be the last Madden I buy for a few years. It's nice they put owner mode back in, so that'll keep me busy but the gameplay just isn't making any major improvements and you can tell EA just doesn't give a crap because they know they have license and idiots will just keep giving them money. At least FIFA has to look over it's shoulder at PES (barely).

Well the game doesn't look great, if you are into realism, the next gen madden is significantly better.
O-line and D-line interaction is so much better than prior versions, and it is the first time in years I don't feel like throwing the controller due to cheap sacks, or absolutely terrible blocking.
Operation sports puts it better than I can:
Quote:
For the first time in the Madden series, users can actually see a true pocket forming for their quarterback, and feel realistic pressure being applied from the edges. The battle down the line truly benefits from the extra calculations’ that the new systems provide, and it’s impressive to see stronger defensive linemen being double teamed, and quicker defensive ends beating the tackle around the edge. Each individual lineman, both offensive and defensive, now have their own individual thought process and act accordingly depending on the situation. We did notice some oddities during our time with Madden25 in regards to this facet of the game, but overall were very pleased with this first year effort.
If you played Madden 25 on the 360 or PS3, than you have a full understanding of the tragedy that was the secondary play. Often times corners or safeties would simply run away from the play, or not even recognize that it was even happening. While we are not ready to anoint Madden 25 on the PS4 as the king of secondary play, we are ready to admit that there have been some good improvements in this area. man coverage has been tightened up and zone coverage is better. This area still needs some improvement, but it does play better than the past gen version, and that is without any slider manipulation at all. One area that is worth pointing out is the deep ball, and the fun we had watching the defender and the wide receiver battle for ball. It’s nice to see the defender put a hand in during the reception and try and knock the ball away from the receiver.

I had madden on 360 and had it for a week on ps4 before I sold the system (at costs btw) and it was much better on next gen.
The thing that sucks is that no NCAA game is available so no importing of draft classes

More numbers coming out for the Thunderdome Console Wars(tm) as we progress from the initial Xbone and PS4 launches.
Looks like both consoles had massive launches in the UK but the PS4 has the initial lead. 530k vs. 364k even with the Xbone having a week headstart with an earlier release. Roughly a 2:1 sales rate for the PS4 on a per week basis (about 130k vs. 70k) - a somewhat messy metric given the different launch dates ala Major Nelson. Also no idea about how well they each kept stock available for purchase though.
It looks like multiplatform games also sold more on the PS4 than Xbones across the board - 360/PS3 lead the way in software though. Obviously, given the much larger install base.
Interesting numbers given how the UK (along with the US) were the two big Microsoft "strongholds" last generation. Still early though, next batch of new games to hit in March/Q2 and we'll see what happens. Here's to more and better games!

Thanks for the interesting numbers. More than 2 to 1 globally for the PS4 going into Christmas. Man, those 3DS numbers! Poor Wii U though.
Looks like Sony hasn't been able to keep up stock to completely fill demand though, they probably could have sold more. On the other hand, Microsoft seems to be able to (more than) meet demand with stock pretty much available in store everywhere now.

Playstation Now is awesome... I got bored by they Sony conference and turned it off. Hopefully it works ok and we see it relatively soon.
As a side note, has anybody seen a PS4 shipment since Christmas? I've been looking but haven't seen anything.

If Playstation Now is going to be included with PS+... that would be pretty amazing since every one already needs it.
I don't think I would pay another subscription to play old games... there will be too many new games to catch up on.
I never wanted backwards compatibility to actually play old games... I wanted it so that it didn't have to keep my old system out but still have an epic collection of games to look at.

Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Now will be a subscription-based service -- though whether it will tie-in to existing subscriptions like PlayStation Plus remains to be seen -- and will support online multiplayer and Trophies. Players can also opt not to subscribe and rent games on a by-game basis.
|
If they bundle this in with the existing cost of PS+, that'll make Xbox Live look like a total joke in comparison (it already looks pretty bad in comparison with the PS+ library of free games)

Based on that quote you posted, and how it mentions you can opt out and rent... it seems like it won't be combined with PS+.
Furthermore, it will probably require PS+ prior to subscribing.

Not sure if serious.. the PS4 isn't backwards compatible. Or do you mean you want them to bring those games to the PS4?
EDIT: Nevermind, I'm a dumbass!

From the article in the comments
Quote:
Hey boomstickbhg – With PS Now, you can rent by title for specific games, or you can choose a subscription that delivers additional value with a wide variety of genres. For example, you can try out a game by rental first, before deciding to actually purchase the full game and download it to your console. We believe this streaming game service will add tons of value to dedicated game consoles in addition to packaged and downloaded games, and in doing so, we will open up a new world of possibilities across PlayStation platforms.
Of course, one of the big reasons we are offering a closed beta is to get feedback on all aspects of the service, including of course the experience with rentals and subscriptions, so we look forward to hearing more feedback from our community as we move through the beta.

It still amazes me that stock has not caught up to the demand yet.
I imagine its going to be February before the kijiji $650 "only 10 remaining" posts are gone.

IGN with an analysis of what Sony's 4.2 million console numbers mean in terms of the console war.
Quote:
4.2 million PlayStation 4s have been sold worldwide since the console launch on November 15 to December 28 - around six weeks. The console hasn’t launched in Japan yet, either. But since Sony is still selling PS4s as fast as it can make them, the sales figure would essentially be 4.2 million even if the console was available globally. PS4s are still out of stock at most retailers - until supply catches up with demand, it’s hard to gauge how high global demand for the console truly is.
3 million Xbox Ones have been sold from its launch on November 22 through December 31, a period of about 5.5 weeks. Like the PS4, The Xbox One isn’t yet available in Japan, and in 2013 Microsoft also sold virtually every console as fast as it could make them. But unlike the PS4, Xbox Ones are now in stock on Amazon, GameStop, and various other retailers - it appears that supply has caught up with launch demand, and in the coming months we should get a clear look at true Xbox One demand.
We can draw three real conclusions from these stats:
1) The Wii U is in real trouble.
Both Sony and Microsoft nearly erased Nintendo’s year-long lead in a matter of weeks. Both consoles will be in more homes than the Wii U soon, if they aren’t already.
2) The console business is extremely healthy.
PC gaming may be thriving. Mobile gaming may be thriving. But it seems neither category is growing at the expense of the traditional game console. It’s impressive to see just how much stronger and faster the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One were when compared with the problem-plagued launches of the PS3 and Xbox 360.
3) We have a long way to go.
Fanboys can quibble over launch figures all they want, and they do matter - momentum is extremely important. But with both the Xbox One and PS4 likely to sell 80 million+ units in their lifetime, no one should spend much energy getting overly excited about the first couple million. It’s still the opening few minutes of the game.

Man, that is a ton of consoles. They won't have any problems reaching their target of 5 million by March. Hell, Sony might already be at that total already.
I wonder what they could have sold through if they were able to actually keep up to the customer demand like Microsoft. Maybe sell 2 to 1 instead of "just" 40% more? With the PS4 Asian launch still to come, that gap could just get larger in the short term.
Long term, Xbone and PS4 numbers already bode well for the future of console gaming!

I'm actually thinking the PS4 shortages are helping Sony somewhat. Like with the original Wii launch, as soon as a place gets any PS4's in stock they sell out immediately. How many people do you think buy them simply because it's the hot item? Even if it's people snapping them up just to resell them, it's still helping Sony. The fact that they've already sold a million more consoles than Microsoft and still can't meet demand probably has their executives giddy with glee

That kind of hype is hard to quantify I guess. I just kinda figure it is just a simple matter of a more powerful system that also happens to be $100 cheaper.
Console war drama llama aside, seems like a no-brainer for most customers at this stage given the sales. Though, you certainly do muddy the waters with brand loyalty, exclusives, personal choice on controllers, wanting voice control TV, etc.
It'll be interesting to see how the PS4 Asian launch goes and when Microsoft finally opens up to their Tier 2 countries (they should have more than enough stock to do that soon). Will we see them pressured to cut the price or push a Kinectless SKU if they keep falling behind? I personally think they'll throw money around and try to buyout games for exclusivity first.
Too bad Wii U is so behind, interesting things these "console wars".

Remote play is pretty damn cool already, but the Last of Us on the Vita too?!
Some impressions so far (looks promising but it is still early and it'll probably take a while to get up to speed in the wild):
