Barkov has 11 points in his last 11 games and is doing it without any of the supporting cast that MacK has. Leads the team in points, plays against other teams top lines where MacK plays either on the wing of Duchene or on the third line against lesser competition.

Also Hampus Lindholm is really impressive along with Krug. I don't know why Seth Jones is even in the same conversation with these guys.

My top 3 would at the moment be these guys, followed by MacK and Monahan.

I am just happy that Monahan is in our top 3 of scoring, and tied for second in goals. He averages about a point every 2 games, so we can safely say that he can get about 40 points this season, even though he missed a few games. I still think that he can reach 50 points. Mackinnon hands down will win the Calder, he's just amazing. Colorado made a good pick.

Mark Scheifele has been on a tear last month and has same point total as Barkov. I doubt he will win the Calder but he will likely figure into the conversation if this pace keeps up. Him and Trouba ease my Jets pain a little.

It seems like we've seen a ton of these foot injuries this season. I know the Flames tried to make skate protectors mandatory (and were denied by the "safety first" NHLPA), but man, you'd think players would start wearing them on their own for their own benefit.

So you mean your top 4?

I think Krug has impressed a ton of people. He has been really consistent on the backend this year. A few mental gaffs, but this is his 1st full season, need to expect it.

Meant Krug, Lindholm, Barkov as top 3... but have to add MacK there just because he is going to win the scoring title most likely. Those would make the top 4 for me.

I've never understood it either. Same thing with the Kevlar socks. If I was a millionaire athlete whose income depended in large part on staying healthy I would be wearing every available piece of protective equipment. Helmet visor, skate guards, kevlar socks.......everything.

I wonder if someone will be brave enough to wear a full shield soon. (brave in the sense that they would be mocked similar to the first helmet wearers of the past)

Don't think the League would actually be happy with that.

From a marketing and player-visibility perspective, hiding their faces would be rather disastrous

What if they wore a clear plastic one like Ekblad had on at the World Juniors?

edit: Here's the best picture I could find.

Also slightly more on topic, but at what point is a player no longer eligible for the Calder?

To be eligible for the award, a player cannot have played any more than 25 games previously in any single season, nor have played in more than six games in each of two separate preceding seasons in any major professional league.

Players could only be eligible if they were under 26 years old by September 15 of their rookie season

What a great year for rookies. I guess it makes sense following an unusually good draft.

Monahan may end up leading our team in goals this year and still not be a Calder favourite. Although come the trade deadline he may get more ice time.

They actually aren't allowed by league rules to wear a full shield. (Its insane, I know).

I'd say Monahan would win it any other year, but this year there seems to be an abundance of great rookies. My personal top 3 would be MacKinnon winning it, with Krug finishing second and Monahan 3rd. Barkov and Jones are also in the mix if you ask me. Like Team Canada, it's unfortunate that many well deserving rookies will be overlooked.

Chris Kreider is having a great year. I think he would be in my top five.
