It is really nice to hear Hartley sticking up for Hudler, and teammates rallying around him. Really stupid decision to leave Hudler and Vrbata off the team. Cervenka - Ok, he is good in the KHL, and a star there - I don't have a problem with that. But Hemsky over the both of them? In what world does that make sense? Nedved... is he some national hero? If Wayne Gretzky came out of retirement today, I would bet everything I own that he would not be named to Team Canada.

Poor Hudler.. that is definitely nonsense.

So Hemsky made the team over Hudler.

They guy with nearly half the points less goals and a far worse plus minus.

Sound like they pick teams like Canada picked its World Junior team this year.

Nedved already played for the Czechs in the 1996 World Cup.. although I'm not sure it that counts.

Here's hoping Hudler pots home 7 goals tonight.

So out of all the players worse then Hemsky that made that team you single him out? The Oiler hatred on this message board is beyond pathetic.

If you think THAT'S pathetic, check this out:

I would have taken Ladislav Smid's face over Hemsky, because it's guaranteed to block at least one shot during the tournament.

At LEAST.

I don't have a problem with Hemsky making it over Hudler. He has some big game battle and a surprising amount of grit. I could understand the Czech's maybe prioritizing that over the perception of player like Hudler who's softer.

But taking Cervenka, Nedved, some other schlub I've never heard of? Are you kidding me?

Its not Oiler hate, Hemsky stands out for not only being a bad pick, but a probably political pick and someone that shouldn't be there.

The guy has been pathetic for several years, its the Peter Principle in hockey.

Terry Jones ‏@sunterryjones

How about a Jiri Hudler for Ales Hemsky trade. Hemsky on Czech Olympic team Hudler not so Flames would have to throw in a draft pick.

Dan Rosen ‏@drosennhl
Late to the party on this, but how in the world does Jiri Hudler get left off the Czech Olympic team roster?

Andy Strickland ‏@andystrickland
Some interesting selections on the Czech Republic Olympic roster...no Hudler, no Polak?

World Cup is an NHL and NHLPA event, not IIHF

Okay, when Oiler übershill Terry freakin' Jones is mocking the choice to have Hemsky over Hudler, you know it was a bad choice.

I'm willing to bet other teams fan bases would be scratching their heads at Hemsky making the team over Hudler as well.

I guess Hudler's saving grace is that he'll still have a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract when the Czech head coach gets fired after the Olympics.

If Hudler scores four goals tonight, I may have to pull a Jumbo Joe Thornton...

/wait, that doesn't sound right.

I had initially assumed Hudler said no to going... like Kiprusoff a couple of times, but that does not seem to be the case. I'm at a loss for words. The Czech's need a new coach if he is keeping off the teams best players because he can't get along with them.

Good luck with Cervenka. I'm not sure how the Crosby will react to his defensive prowess.
