Just booked a trip to Vegas in Apirl. I've been about 5 or 6 times, but this will be the first time I am going with a girlfriend, just the two of us.

Any ideas for good ways to do Vegas with a S/O? I'm guessing 15 hour gambling binges aren't in the cards for me. Staying at the Mirage. We want to do a nice dinner one night and I think we are going to see Elton John another night.

Its not so much about dropping $200 at a table as it is how long you can make that $200 last. If you play $25-$50 blackjack hands and sit there for hours with $200 then you are going to rack up the points. If you walk up and drop $200 on one hand, well you leave with very few points.
Friends and I used to pool a bunch of money and do one roulette spin until we realized how stupid and few points that would generate vs spending a hour doing $100 spins.
I was playing 10-15 a hand Blackjack for an hour and half, and the guy didn't even attempt to look at my mlife card. Was at the MGM, prior to that I was at the Aria doing the exact same thing.

at the MGM or Aria, you need to bet a minimum of $25 a hand before they will look at you. At the Monte Carlo or Excalabur $15 a hand will get some attention.

Default 30th bday

Hey guys i will be booking a trip for vegas soon with about 10 of my closest friends for my 30th bday party. Can anyone make some recommendations on if we should all book together or should we book in a couple smaller groups?

We are looking at a budget of about 600-850 per person for flight and hotel, anyone have some places they would stay for that price? I have stayed at the Flamingo before but thats it, i was doing some looking and it seemed that Planet Hollywood would be a good deal for under 700$ anyone stay there before?

Thnx!

I found PH to be a whole lot of 'meh'. I'd stay there if I had free rooms but would look virtually anywhere else on the strip before paying to stay there again. However pros include it's right across the street from Cosmo, and the mall attached is good for cheaper booze, food, etc.

The gambling there is brutal, minimums are often higher there than the 'premium' places on the strip, for no apparent reason.

Great call on Elton John - he does an awesome show.

Go for some nice dinners - try Gordon Ramsey's steakhouse or other pretentious places.

Duelling piano bars if you're into that sort of thing. Get entertained if you won't be gambling.

Go golfing one day while your gf does the inevitable trip to the outlet malls.

Check to see if the package price includes the resort fees, some of them don't.

PH is in a great location which to me is important in Vegas, it is right in the middle of the strip the rooms are nice. But when my Bro stayed there, 3 nights in a row his room card didnt work, including right after they checked in, and of course again at 3am or something, that could happen anywhere though. The casino is quite loud/ noisy/ busy.

I am a huge fan of TI...stayed there several times now and keep going back when its in a group that could get rowdy. Great pricing & you wont have the rich feel where you feel out of place crushing a cold one at 9am to celebrate the birthday.
I put TI above MGM (location reasons). Do not stay at the Stratosphere, Circus Circus or Excaliber regardless of pricing. I would also stay away from Mandalay Bay as its a PITA to experience the strip.

My buddy organized a flight hotel package for his up coming bachelor party and I turned it down. It was around $850 and I know that it can be had in the $650 range if I check every now and then!

It depends what you are looking for, and how much time you have. You can go out to a nice dinner anywhere in any city, but you can only go down to Fremont St in Las Vegas. To me if it comes down to budget, I would rather spen money on a show (La Reve, KA) then on fancy dinners out. If budget is not an issue the obviously you can do both.

Spend the mornings (early part of your day) at the pool, and hit the strip later, that is what my wife likes to do. I also take her to the outlet mall the on the first day or two to get that over with, then I leave it up to her to hit up the forum shops, and fashion show mall on her own while I can get my gambling fix in.

Buy her drinks in fancy containers, take her up the "Eiffel Tower" at night, watch the fountains etc...

Just a couple places I went that I thought had really good food while in Vegas:

Burger Bar (between Luxor and Mandalay Bay) - Really good Burger, very tasty. Bit pricy, but not crazy.
Peppermill (North end of the strip) - Very good diner food, good selection, very affordable and generous portions.
The Pub (Monte Carlo) - Excellent Burger and amazing beer selection.

I can say the 2 burgers I had here were head and shoulders above anything I can find in Calgary.

Wolfgang Puck's Pizzeria - GF and I didn't like it. Not very tasty. Plenty of other good pizza places around instead of this one.

Any opinions on the Aria or Cosmo? Looking to stay there during March Madness.

I've been told they are both fantastic, but have never stayed there myself as I'm cheap like that. Two of the newer ones on the strip should not disappoint.

There are a ton of good burger places in LV from pub style (Jimmy Buffets, Cheese Burger in Paradise) to Classic (Roxy's, KGB) to gourmet. I bet there are over 30 good ones on the strip alone. I really like "La Burger Brasserie" at Paris.

Aria is super nice, but you can feel a little out of place if you like to get rowdy.

Cosmo workers were on strike when I went in October.

Don't think a deal has been struck so there is a chance they go on strike again.

I'd agree with this. We stayed there a few years ago, and it was just ok, nothing terrible. The rooms were 'meh', and the casino was ok, but nothing fantastic. It is in a pretty nice location though. And at 9pm or whatever time it was they had the one area where they booted out the regular dealers and brought in the women in lingerie, it was.......interesting. It wouldn't be the worst place to stay, but I'd look at other options first.

Possibly because you bent time and space to move Mandalay Bay & Luxor from the south to the north?

The wife and I have stayed the Aria twice now and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there a third time. It's clean & modern and provides of a bit of escape from the Vegas noise when you're off the main level. (the level II promenade feels more like a mall than a hotel/casino).

But it's not a big "party" hotel, it's clean & somewhat quite... which I like. Vegas can take a lot out of you, so a good night's sleep (without drunks screaming the halls) can mean a lot.

Having said all that, if I were going a "guys" trip I'd choose elsewhere, Aria is a nice wife/couples kinda place, where as if you're going to get a little rowdy you may not have as much fun. Plus the table games are typically $10/hand during the day & $15/hand at night. I'm more of a $5/$10 a hand type, so I actually didn't play any table games there.

Cosmo is party central hotel - Clubs are the top notch and their pool parties are insane!
