Andrew Cogliano Signs 4 Year 12M deal
While not worthy of a ton of discussion, Andrew Cogliano has re-upped with the Ducks for another four years.
http://www.hockeyfights.com/news/193606
He's become a real solid third-line center in Anaheim, after Edmonton almost ruined him after they rushed him up too quickly during their rebuild. Just goes to show how playing for a solid organization can pretty much turn around anyone's career. It almost looked like he was KHL bound at one point after he had trouble finding a new team after his time in Edmonton.
Oh and he completely decimated the Oilers last night, so this contract is well deserved.
Quote:
ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed forward Andrew Cogliano to a four-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season.
Cogliano, 26 (6/14/87), has appeared in all 43 games for the Ducks this season, posting 13-12=25 points with a +16 rating and 20 penalty minutes (PIM). He is on pace for a career best in goals and points (previously 18 and 45, respectively). The Toronto, Ontario native currently ranks fifth on the team in points, third in goals and shots (84), and tied for first among forwards in hits (50). In 173 career NHL games with Anaheim, Cogliano has recorded 39-35=74 points with 41 PIM. He currently ranks eighth among forwards on the franchise’s all-time list in plus/minus (+26).

Umm... are you sure you're talking about the right guy? Cogliano spent two years developing in college after he was drafted. Considering Cogliano put up 18 goals and 45 points while being a +1 on a terrible team in his rookie year, it's absolutely unfair to say Edmonton ruined him by rushing him. However, Cogliano did seem to regress from his rookie year and you can argue that Edmonton's poor player development led to Cogliano not developing properly.
And I have no idea where the idea that he was KHL bound came from. Cogliano was traded for a 2nd round pick and after the trade the Ducks avoided arbitration and signed him to a 3 year $7.17M deal. You make Cogliano sound like a player who was let go and remained unsigned for the longest time until the landing with the Ducks.

I thought the Oil were going to dominate with the likes of Cogliano, MPS, Schremp and Gagner (green text). How quickly most of those key rebuilding pieces were dumped.

Sorry, I didn't mean when he went to the Ducks, but prior to 2010-11 I heard some rumors Oilers weren't happy with Cogliano's progression, after his numbers continued to decline after his rookie season. They qualified him to a bargain basement contract of only a million on a one year deal, just so they could trade him in the off-season. KHL bound might be the right term, but at the time it didn't look like he was going to have a long career, but instead would have to follow the paths of Robbie Schremp and Nilsson (who both eventually headed to Europe).

Another player on the long list that the Oilers almost ruined. I bet Lupul is happier than hell to have gotten out of that organization.
Cogliano is like an Edmonton hipster, he part of the rebuild before it was cool. Or even admitted to.
He also has an awesome player picture on TSN.

Good for him. I was hoping the flames would take a run at him in the off season.

Good cap hit if he can keep contributing to the Ducks as much as he has.

If he was still in Edmonton, he would have been in line for one of those 7 year $6 million/year deals that all their first rounders get.

Interesting...Cogliano has never missed a game in his 7 year career. 501 game ironman streak to start his career.

Especially impressive with the type of game he plays. I've always thought Bouwmeester's ironman streak should have an asterisk next to it.

Burke was actually talking about Bouwmeester when he made the "can't spell intense" comment.

On the flipside of that argument, consider that Bouwmeester has consistently been one of the league leaders in TOI. He may not initiate that much contact, but simply being out there so much and having guys hit you does speak volumes as to his durability. Lots of other players in the NHL who don't play a physical game still don't manage to have that long of a streak.

I think it's also fair to give defensemen more credit for their durability all else being equal. Defensemen tend to get hit more and block more shots.

Sarich's ironman streak still blows my mind. Quite an accomplishment for a very physical player.
