Fans have rated him as puke, when he should have been rated as crap?
Who's over rating him?

Yes not a complete waste... wasteful, but not completely wasteful.

Whats the deal with Cundari and Seiloff? I thought Cundari looked pretty darn good after coming over from St Louis last year, how has his season gone so far? And I know Seiloff had a staph infection, is he still on the mend?

Frankly, Cundari hasn't done very well this season.
And Seiloff's doing some synchronized swimming, underwater exercises something something back in Michigan.

Yeah it hasn't been a great season for Flames defensive prospects. It's good that Breen passed through and can get back to playing minutes in the AHL.

What? The only people over-rating Breen were fired by Burke a month ago

Jim Playfair also claimed Breen would be in the NHL shortly before he left the organization. Technically true, I guess, but I presume he meant on a more permanent basis.

Seiloff has been off quite a while now. Hopefully he returns soon, but i heard there is a chance he could get sent back to Windsor. I have no idea if that is even possible, but either way, it will be good to get him palying again. As for Cundari, i don't get the lack of love here. He has done everything the coach has asked of him of late. He is physical, defensive minded, gets the puck out of his zone fast and is creative. He could stand to block more shots and work his pass accuracy, but overall, he is doing well now. I think he desrves a call up to see if he could pick up where he left off at the end of last season.

Yes he could get sent to Windsor. The only advantage to having Sieloff in Abbotsford if you ask me was the ability to recall him if he continued to improve, where as if he were in Windsor they wouldn't be able to recall him except under an emergency basis. With him missing half the year I think it's a safe bet the odds of him getting an NHL recall are now very slim, so no harm in sending him to Windsor to play big minutes.

That's not the only advantage. The main advantage is that he's playing at a higher level of play and adapting to pro hockey earlier which may mean he's ready for the NHL earlier. He'd be learning from pros, being around pros, and taught by our own coaching staff in our own system. As an added bonus the Heat are actually really good this year so he'd learn in a winning environment and potentially develop friendships and chemistry with other prospects that he'll play with in the upcoming years on the Flames. Plenty of reasons to still put him in Abby when he's ready. But if they decide to send him back to junior that is probably fine too.
Hope he comes back soon.

Breen was a jumbo developmental player that didn't get drafted in spite of his size.
Because he was a UFA, it was no big loss; rolling the dice on size when it doesn't cost any draft picks isn't a big deal.
People that actually thought he'd become a regular NHL'er, and there were some, just became enamored with his size...
It remains to be seen what kind of player Kanzig becomes.
Again, criticizing the pick (3rd Round) is completely different than criticizing the player....

Correction: some people think he may become an NHL player - he's 23 and many defensemen don't put it together until about the age of 26.
I don't think anyone thought he could be more than a 6/7 guy at best this season. And the early injury, missing training camp, and starting behind everyone else, ended any chance of that happening.
He always was, and always will be a longshot, but it would be foolish to completely write him off at this point.

Breen was signed simply to fill an open spot in Abbotsford. People "became enamored" with him because Breen turned himself from AHL filler to marginal prospect. And it wasn't the fans that developed that opinion first, it was the coaching staff and management in Abbotsford.
I don't know that anyone here actually thought he'd become a "regular NHLer", but many did want to see what he could do at the NHL level. Those are not the same things.

I really think the difference between playing big minutes on a losing team in Windsor and playing smaller minutes on a good team in Abbotsford is negligible, especially when he will probably be traded to a Memorial Cup contender if sent to Windsor.
Time on the ice at the age of 19 is more important for developing than a winning atmosphere.

The same scouting team that found undrafted OHLer Mark Giordano found Chris Breen.
They can be forgiven for giving Breen a chance to become an NHLer.

Windsor looks to me like they're 25-13-1. So not exactly a losing club.

Even better then, I didn't look just assumed they sucked like last year.
So big minutes with a winning team in the OHL or smaller minutes with a winning team in the AHL. I choose OHL.

I don't think anyone was enamored with Breen. More 'curious' than anything. Yes, his size is definitely nice. I was (and still am) optimistic about Breen due to his development. He became a very steady d-man for the Heat, showed a lot of composure, and vastly increased his 'mean quotient' (he was too much of a friendly giant at first). Will stick up for his teammates regularly. Even if he doesn't ever become an NHL'er, I would still like him on the Heat as I think he has a lot to offer a development team. Nobody can say he is done developing either - slow but steady positive developmental arc with him. Has it stopped? Who knows. I give him a bit of leeway due to his injury and subsequent possible rust in his game, some nerves.. but this may be where his development stops. It may be he continues to develop his game further. At any rate, he is great in the AHL, so we can definitely show more patience to him. Hopefully he develops into a 5-7th D-man in the NHL, but if not, he is steady in the AHL, and definitely goes a long way as a guy who can play and defend his teammates.
As for Sieloff, I prefer that he went to the Heat over the OHL. He looked solid in the prospects camp, and was battling non-stop. I think he would add a nice component to the Heat for now, and I think it would accelerate his development. The ONLY reason I think he should be considered for the OHL is if he is going to be seeing ample PP time to work on his offence. I don't think he will get that much on the Heat.
