I'm sure if I wanted to move back to German as an adult it wouldn't be to terribly hard to get it back.

Why for the love of applesauce did they name their kid with what is essentially a euphemism for a woman's period? If she some day smothers them in their sleep, they deserve it.

Well, should have clicked the link. But really, same difference. It's probably even worse that it's a boy. Poor kid.

I once had a boss who's mom wanted to name him Epiphany, however, she didn't know how to spell the word and on his birth certificate, she put 'Phippny' He went by 'Pip' and refused to talk about it.

My dad worked with a guy named Phil McCracken for 30 years and never thought twice about it until we were sitting at the dinner table one night and he said 'My buddy, Phil McCracken at work...' and my brother and I about died laughing. He said no one ever made fun of him or thought twice about it. :/

My youngest son has a friend who has 7 kids in his family. They are all named after States. Her name is Georgia, there is Dakota, Carolina, Texas, Utah, Florida and Montana. They live in my neighbourhood.

I have worked with a Shameka, Shanequa, Shanaynay, Lashonda, Laruneela, and a woman named 'Delicious' (Not a stripper, she was in customer service and that was her real name).

There are several kids in our local high school named Porche, Mercedes and Infinity.

Oh, and personally- I really don't see anything wrong with the name 'Summer.' It's a hippy name, but it's pretty.

Big Brodie, our Phil McCracken retired a few years ago. Cracked me up.

We were talking about this thread with family today and I've been reminded by my kids of the following.

My aunt is a visiting homeschool teacher. In other words, she has a roster of families and she goes to see them a few times a year, to go over curriculum, and so forth. Not all the families are super religious but I'd say the majority are. She has one family who have named their 7 or 8 kids or however many of them there are, some really out there religiously themed names - this is no joke, and absolutely true. They have names like Praise the Lord Smith, Hallelujah he is Lord Smith, Shout to the Lord Smith and so on. IIRC, a couple of the boys have some long ass name with Messiah in the mix.

Minnie- there are so many kids named Jesus here it's ridiculous. You never know whether to call them Hay-Zeus or Jesus. Also, Magdelene, Baptist, Messiah, Psalm, Testament and Corinthian. Good ol Bible Belt names.

I offered one of my employees $5000 if he would name his daughter Oprah. He came back to work stressed out over how he was going to pay his mortgage. I reminded him that he turned down his next 6 payments by not taking my offer.

Oprah wasn't even supposed to be named Oprah. I've read various explanations that said it was a spelling mistake on her birth certificate to people mispronouncing her actual name and the mispronunciation sticking.

10 illegal baby names

Quote:
1) Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii (New Zealand)
New Zealand law bans names which could cause offence to a 'reasonable' person. Good thing too - the country is a stupid name hotspot. We found a couple from the islands who tried and failed to call their son '4Real', but nothing beats the ridiculous moniker above. It belonged to a 9-year-old girl before a judge had her renamed during a custody battle. 'It makes a fool of the child,' he said. It certainly made application forms a pain in the butt.

Has New Zealand banned any other names? Oh yes. The judge listed some that were also blocked: Fish and Chips (twins), Yeah Detroit, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit. Number 16 Bus Shelter and Violence were allowed.
Quote:
3) Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116 (Sweden)
No, we didn't fall asleep on the keyboard. That is an actual name a Swedish couple tried to inflict on their son back in 1996. Apparently the name is pronounced 'Albin' (we're not sure how), and the parents chose it as a protest against Sweden's admittedly strict naming laws. Tax authorities must give their blessing to both first and surnames before they can be used.

Has Sweden banned any other names? Oh yes. Some favourites include Metallica, IKEA, Veranda and Q. Google was OK though.

When I was a kid my grandparents lived in Dorchester Ontario, the funeral home director's name was Itchy Dick.

In Chatham Ontario, the most popular travel agent was Homer Dick. At every single Junior B Maroon game, every time a puck would go into the crowd they'd say 'And there's another souvenir puck from Homer Dick Travel Agency.' Maybe they were related?

Ok...I will confess my two boys have some weirdness in their names.

My oldest son's name is Tristan, his middle name is Mishra. Yes, my oldest's middle name came from a card game.

My younger boys first name is Damian. I always loved that name growing up. For the mother to give in to my Damian she insisted his middle name be Xander...from Buffy The Vampire.

Good thing you added the second n. Saved her from a lifetime of torture.
