Good he got that done before midnight. He has been a beast and it's unfortunate we don't get to see him in the current red silks but stoked to see him in his future red silks

This is great news. If Burke is signing a Feaster draft pick, he really believes in the kid. Can't wait to see him on LW.

Also ELC max is 3 yrs 900-something. When do these guys start getting a check? Does it not start until they are in the AHL? or will he start getting paid now?
Salary starts getting paid when he turns pro (ahl or nhl dollars) but they get their signing bonus in 9 installments over three years (1/9 every four months) from the day the contract is signed.

In the starting line-up of the Flames?

Everyone is happy about the pre-Jan. 1st signing so I guess hooray!

I turned on signatures to see a Mod Edit? I don't like what this means for John Gaudreau's chances of signing.

So does this make it seem like his agent is inept in him signing in 2013? If he would have waited one more day, the first year of his contract couldn't slide. Or am I missing something?

Yeah I'd be surprised if he didn't spend at least a full year in the AHL first. Burke has never been one to rush prospects.

Well it seems to only come into play if he plays 9 games and is sent back, which is unlikely at this point. If he comes in and makes the team his contract doesn't slide in any case, if he doesn't make the team his contract doesn't slide. Seems like a fairly small chance that it ever matters.

What does this have to do with Gaudreau and his signing?

Not a thing.
But the sky appears to be falling I suppose.

Ok, thanks for explaining that. Then there is really no reason to be excited that he signed by the end of 2013. It's more a matter that Burke got him signed and probably nothing further than that, whether it was today or sometime in 2014 if I'm following you corrrectly.

Hope this guy keeps progressing like he has... He has all the tools to be a great pick for the flames. Good size, crazy speed, scoring touch, and grit.

My apologies, I think you're right after reading the FAQ on capgeek. I think too much of a deal is made about ELCs and burning contract years and sliding and nonsense anyway though.

Poirier is eligible to play in the AHL next year so he could potentially play in the AHL next year and have his contract slide next season, thanks to signing before January 1st.

I'm glad he signed, but surprised he did. Isn't earlier rFAa status the better from a player's perspective?

Must have been better bonuses or something negotiated in.
