not sure what people are so negative about the game for. Think back at the whoopings at the hands of the nucks over the past 5 years. Yesterday was a ok game by the flames. They got good goaltending, played a 'bend but don't break' type defense other than a few breakdowns, and destroyed a nuck also.

this is a rebuild, the nucks are a much better team pretty much to a man. The fact the flames kept it a 1 goal game for the most part was admirable.

I think the flames recent dip has been that the forward vets flat out suck of late. Stempniak/Cammalleri just look bad out there.

Good to see Berra playing well. He seems to do well when playing from behind, though would love to see him turn the corner and be more focussed when playing with the lead late in games.

I hope galiardi can be flipped at the deadline to get that 4th rounder back.

I would prefer granlund, reinhart, street etc. Playing those minutes at this point. Glorified Comeau right now with a higher acquisition cost.

Yeah Galliardi is junk. He's barely an NHLer at this point.

Great post. While this team is harder working than any of the Flames' sides the last 5 years, the truth is that the Flames are just not a very skilled team, overall. It's easy to shut down our top skilled guys because there just isn't any secondary scoring--Galiardi, D. Jones, Colbourne simply don't score.

I sat 2nd tier in the corner last night, so I had a pretty full view of the Canucks' 1-2-2 trap that they used a lot. Loubo and Steinberg were talking about how Torts has got them committed to defense this year, so, I guess that means "the trap". It still won't be enough to take them far in the playoffs though--the Ducks, Sharks, Kings, Blues, Hawks are just so much better. Scary how deep the West is this year.

Agreed about not being close to the flames worst game.

I take these losses to Vancouver over watching the sedins play globetrotter, scoring goals between their legs, or giving up a 5 goal lead to lose in regulation.

Hell, things aren't even as bad as two years ago when the flames were shutout in 3 consecutive games at home.

From reading the comments the anger seems to come from the lack of effort. People seem okay with the losses but when playing at home to a rival (especially after laying a big steaming pile of dog crap the game before) fans want to at least see effort out of the players.

It is one thing during the rebuild to lose to the Canucks because their skill beats us and another thing to lose to them because we rolled over and did nothing.

When did that happen?

Last night they said first time being shutout twice in a row at home since 2003.

Hmm, I might be misremembering. Last year or two years ago, I thought they were shutout, or essentially shutout 3 games in a row around Christmas time. Lots of boo birds, etc.

Closest I saw was 4 games in a row that were 1, 0, 1, 1 and they won the first one.

That was mid-end of January.

Last time in general, but at home it was 2003.

fair enough, last night wasn't an example of a game where the loss could be pinned on a lack of effort. The canucks are a bigger and faster and more skilled team. They were able to dominate the open ice and dominate along the boards. The flames were doing just fine given what the roster is. Was it their best game of the year, nope, not even close. Was it their worst game, not by a fair margin.

If a good team matches the flames effort, the flames will lose. That's just a consequence of the roster in place.

Hmm, didn't Calgary lose 4 in a row, badly, before the deadline one year, wasn't it the infamous feaster empty threat?

I try to forget these awful memories.

Lines from todays practice

Cammelleri - Backlund - Byron
Hudler - Monahan - Stempniak
Bouma - Stajan - Jones
Galiardi - Colborne - McGrattan

Defense same as yesterday

To each their own but for my money that was a fataing awful game. The flames were never in it, almost never had the puck, and accomplished nothing. Young guns era bad. Fans went to a restaurant with 5 star prices and got hot dogs and creamed corn.

It probably boils down to whether you think rebuilding is an excuse to be awful. Some do - i think some even enjoy it - and hey it's their time and money so fair enough. You have to appreciate that some don't though.

I don't think anyone is ready to throw a sweater on the ice, but a spade is a spade. On to the next game.

Might as well just send Granlund back.

Granlund skated in Backlunds place during practice, but Hartley say Backlund is in. I wanna see what Granlund does, I say stick him on a wing and scratch Galiardi again
