Default Best place for kids goalie equipment

I have decided to no longer fight my son, he wants to play goal.

Therefore he needs equipment. Some friends of ours gave him some pads that their boy used.

I need to buy the rest, went looking in Dead Rear but didn't have much choice.

Please post suggestions on places to buy.

He is a first year novice, but a big boy. The pads are 26+1 and only a touch too big for him.

Check with your hockey association, I know ours had gear sets for teams up until Atom, to keep parents from having to buy it before kids really knew they wanted to.

also the best way to keep him from wanting to be a goalie is to hope he gets lit up in a game. mine thought he wanted to until he got scored on 10 times in a game, that was the end of that.

I tried "the shots that hurts". He was on the ice with his sisters Atom team and took a one timer from the coach in the sternum, nothing. I also sent him out wearing no knee pads, came back with bruises, again nothing.

He uses the team stuff, but can't use it all the time, cuz other kids are using it. He has talked himself into regular practice times with his sisters team.

Just think, if they ever allow kids to hit again, you will never have to worry about you kid cutting through the middle with his head down.......when you son was that small we geared him up at pro-hockey life and the cost was not that bad. I also bought his second set of stuff at a source for sports - they had a deal where you buy leg pads and a blocker and the catcher was free.

There is a pro-hockey life in cross iron mills, not sure what's in southern Edmonton. For some reason I think there is a large source for sports in wetaskiwan.......

Welcome to the club.

I got some gear at B&P Cycle on 17th and 52nd SE. They are having a boxing week sale right now I believe.

Goalie shop does do a buy back program, so if you have to keep buying stuff they have a plan to keep it cheaper (and they must have some used stuff as a result).

East Side Sports in Airdrie has quite a bit of used gear, good prices too.

Another vote for The Goalie Shop, as I've become quite involved there. For the last two years I've been instructing in their Goalie Development Centre, and now I'm head of development, which has also brought me up into the retail side.

We do sell new and used. Not a ton of selection in our used department right now, but there's some, and we also just started an inventory clearance, minimum 20% off all new gear in our store.

Fire me a PM and I'll be happy to answer anymore questions, or just post any more general questions here.

As for the 31st we have reduced hours, we'll be open from 10:30 til 3.

as a former goalie and the father of a goalie. I bought a lot of my kids stuff through ebay at first. kijiji is another spot to check.
The only things I bought new for him when he was young was skates and mask. The rest was all used.
I did that until bantam when he started to get particular about his equipment.
Buying used is best because it save your son the trouble of breaking stuff in.
Good luck.
My kid is 16, I have pads and gloves but I think your boy is a few years away yet from those.

P.S. my kid has been a goalie since 1st year Novice. Personally, I didnt mind. At least I was able to help him. I will say this to you....Its a tough position. Make sure that you son has lots of positive feedback, even on those nights where he gets lit up. And please make sure that your son has coaches that understand what it means to coach a goalie. Goalies are not targets!!!!! Goalie management is something that seems to allude most coaches. I have all my coaching certification, feel free to contact me anytime.

For that age, I would really look at Kijiji or Play it again sports.

I have got a ton of my goalie gear from both and have never been disappointed.

Adrenaline Source for Sports has some good deals as well!

East Side Sports is your best bet for used gear.

As a side note, it must be pretty fun to take shots in street hockey, on the pond, and on the rink on your son. Enjoy it.

It is pretty enjoyable actually, you can unload on him and he doesn't care. Problem is when we go play shinny, he wants to bring full equipment and take shots....

Not so much of an issue now but when he was younger, this solved the issue of toe straps coming apart during games.
go to walmart, pick up some velcro, tie them into a shortened toe lace. wrap them around the toe of the blade a couple of times and then a knot. bring them then to the top of the skate and velcro. they dont come undone!
