Gross. I've seen them in person too and they look as stupid as they do on TV.

Also, rumour has it that our retros will replace our current home/away jerseys
 |
The front crest design is horrible. I hope the fans reject this abomination and the jersey dies a quick death!

Oh, and I've finally come around to the "Breen sucks" team. I really wanted to see him get a chance and maybe see if he could develop into something worth keeping, but with only 4:24 of ice-time he had a brutal giveaway that almost ended up in the back of the net and did absolutely nothing to block out Smyth on what ended up being the gamewinner. He's not ready for the NHL, and might never be. Put him on waivers, try to send him down. If he gets claimed, oh well. (I really don't think he will).
It does beg the question of who we can call up to fill those minutes. I'm not sure how much longer Wideman is out, but we can't rotate 5 defensemen forever. Time to bring Smith back up?

Edit: Just remembered Smith was already recalled. I'm tired, leave me alone

I agree the experiment is over, he looks like a large pylon out there

Yeah, the kind of play we're seeing from Breen is quite discouraging, to say the least! Just doesn't seem to have the skating ability to handle the big show, and his hockey IQ isn't good enough to make up for the lack of footspeed as of yet.

If Flames are really lucky, MAYBE he'll become a mean and nasty version of Hal Gill with fighting ability in the future, but that is at the extreme optimistic end. He has flat out floundered in the NHL and hasn't shown much to indicate he can become much better than what he is right now.

There's a reason he wasn't drafted despite his large stature. He's a pylon who can't skate.

Smith would be way better than Breen i don't know why flames management thinks he would get claimed he has shown nothing so far the only thing he has is size. His giveaway to Smyth this game was not even a junior calibre play hold onto it for a few seconds and give yourself an opening. There is no way he will develop into an nhl player not playing any games the whole year get rid of him and get someone who can play more than 5 minutes a game Breen and O'Brien as a pairing is a joke you would only play those guys together if your intentionally tanking.

Breen, NHL waiver protection, Byron, AHL fixture.
Either management is tanking, or yet another reason I am glad Burke is now in charge.

Why was Smyth's goal allowed? They make rules for the heck of it? Smyth clearly directed the puck into the net with his body intentionally.

78.5#Disallowed Goals# Apparent goals shall be disallowed by the Referee and the appropriate announcement made by the Public Address Announcer for the following reasons:

(i)##When the puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an attacking player other than with a stick

The NHL is actually on our side and wants us to drop below Florida and possibly the Isles.

Who knows what tragedies the future holds, but let us be happy that Feaster won't have a hand in them.

Judging by the icing call they probably don't know this rule i would recommend mailing it to them so they know why they got booted out of the nhl.

Byron had a great preseason. However, I am sure that Burke came in at preseason time, preaching "bigger is better" internally. I assume Feaster then had to make sure that Byron got buried, while big players got a push to put the proper appearances on, no matter how well the big or small players actually played on the ice.

You know, this game was like cardboard, but what was worse were some of our fixtures that seem to get so much ice time. D.Jones, Shane O Brien, TJ Galliardi...
Also, I wanted to comment on Tåylor halls ridiculous stick and gloves. Just so edmontonian.

On a positive note, I thought Giordano played an amazing game and it's was nice to see!

Those 3 Feaster moves were probably in Burkes report I imagine. Complete pylons.

Nothing worse than losing to them. Officiating worst I have maybe ever seen.
 Flames were brutal.
But at end of day, them passing us in standings is beneficial. As disgusting as that sounds...

Flames just aren't a very good NHL hockey team. That said they lost tonight to a team that is even worse at NHL hockey and when the officials make two very, very, very marginal calls that make for a two goal swing against the Flames it's not going to be easy for them.
It sucks to lose to one of NHL history's worst franchises but at the end of the day this was a hollow victory for the Oilers that are still 5 points behind the Flames and lets not forget that one of these teams supposedly had playoff aspirations.

I worry that Burke will short circut the rebuild with trades to make us a playoff team in the next couple of years.

I really don't think he's going to send out 1st round draft picks for quick fixes. I'm sure he may go out and try and sign a few big fish in free agency and maybe trade a prospect or two for help I don't think he's ever not going to have an eye on the cupboard. Everyone likes to gloss over the Kessel trade but otherwise Burke doesn't have a big history in trading 1st round picks/prospects.
