My understanding of the Rogers deal was that TVA would have french language rights to anything Rogers has the national rights to, but I may have misunderstood.

Can you have an English National game and a French Regional game on the same day?

Ray Ferrero signs a 10 year contract with TSN to stay there.
Ray Ferraro @rayferrarotsn 4h
Quite likely #tsn will have over 100 NHL games on air next yr regionally, which I'll do approx 48, + world junior, and world championship

Funny thing about all these TSN contracts is they could still potentially still broadcast games on Sportsnet. These guys likely still have the freedom to work with American networks, like LeBrun and ESPN or like Pierre used to do.
With Rogers holding the national rights to the NHL they are very likely going to air games between 2 American clubs and when they do so they will do as TSN has done the last several years and that is just air the US feed over their airwaves because their contract allows it.
So if someone like Ferraro does some work for NBC, he could very well end up doing colour on some of Sportsnet's games where they feature the American feed.
I am not saying it will happen, but the potential is there.

I do think one side effect of this TV deal is that TSN is going to over-inflate the World Championships like they have the World Juniors and help raise the profile of that event.

They're already rolling out commercials focusing on the others sports they cover.

This could be the best thing to ever happen to Hockey Canada.
TSN did an amazing job making sure that the WJC is a big part of Canadian culture, they are now doing the same with the CFL too. Expanding their hype machine to the World Championships, women's hockey, the under 18 tournament, etc. is going to do wonders for hockey Canada.
They also have potential to expand hockey further in Canada if they can get the CHL coverage away from Sportsnet and with some holes in their programming they could potentially give AHL and NCAA hockey a whirl as well.

TSN needs to get it's radio side going too. The hockey guys need to be on there throughout the day.
Sportsnet Radio has shows from 9am to 7pm (Jeff Blair, Hockey Central, Tim & Sid and PTS) that are killing TSN radio.

Agreed, though it will be interesting to see how well they manage that given the games will inevitably be played in the morning, and the evening replays will clash with the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

WC viewership will continue to be a joke compared to the Cup finals.

The problem with WJC and WC is that they're dependant on Canada doing well since it's all Canada-hype television. If they crash out early nobody cares. Who watched the US-Sweden WJC final or even worse the Sweden-Suisse WC final last year? Anyone?

I've heard from a pretty knowledgable source (another major-league Canadian broadcaster) that Gord Miller is on his way to the US to work for NBC, and that he has recently received all proper immigration papers to do so.

He has been doing work on NBC and NBC Sports Network's NHL coverage for the last three seasons or so (he tweeted about it earlier this season). Going forward, I expect him to remain the voice of the World Juniors, and keep doing CFL broadcasts during the summer, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him doing a lot more work for NBC going forward, which will be kind of strange if Rogers picks up some of those games as part of the new deal.

I watched the World Junior final last year, but if Gaudreau and Sieloff hadn't been on Team USA, I likely wouldn't have cared.

Well maybe Rogers wont be as cheap as TSN/Bell and send down their own production teams to pick up US games. It always galls me to see TSN just blatantly put on another networks feed on their network including graphics announcers and in game promos. Pretty Pathetic for a Canadas Sports Leader

The NHL Network in the US, you know the one owned and operated by the NHL itself? Yeah they show Canadian feeds for their live games all the time. You can call it cheap, but its just smart business. Or would you prefer we never see NFL games because the Canadian networks don't send thier own crews down?

smart business isnt good TV necessarily - just cheap
playing the card you wont see it if we dont just take their feed is just a rich owner trying to make more money

I have a hard time even watching the Canadian games anymore. The teams just aren't the same since the last gold. I don't mean the obvious in that they don't win gold, they're just not as fun to cheer for. Too arrogant, too entitled. This was the worst with the Nemisz/Hall team and has gotten a little better every year since, but it's still not the same.
