I think Gio could return a legit prospect as part of the package, as opposed to what Iginla and Bouwmeester returned.
It seems to me players like Gio are the most sought after players at the trade deadline.
|
I don't think there is any way Gio can return more than Bouw. Bouw is valued more around the league ((ir)regardless of what Calgarians think).
If you truly believe that Gio is worth more then Bouw than the Flames should have traded Gio last year and kept Bouw.

Well, Burke would be making the trade, not Feaster.
I do believe that Bouwmeester has more value, but that doesn't mean Gio can't return more value for the Flames.

I do feel Gio is worth more than what Feaster got for Bouw, yes.

i completely agree with you. If he made team Canada by some miracle, and played good in Russia then his value would go up

Gio has a NMC for this year and a Full NTC the following season.
It's a delusion thinking any team will trade their freshly named captain in the same season he was named. Great trade value or not, he's not going anywhere. I akin these thoughts to the acquisition of players only to flip them at the trade deadline of the same season. Frankly its silly.
If you'd have asked me last year if Gio should be traded I'd have been driving that train. And would have tied Butler to the tracks.
But since he has donned the C it's become very clear he is the foundation upon which all else stands in that locker room. The record with him in the lineup and with him out of it is also a huge indicator this is true. You do not trade guys like that.

It will be interesting to see what he will be looking for in his next contract, especially the term.

Gio is such a massive reason the Flames have not been the worst team in the league this year. The way he carries himself on and off the ice sets a huge example for the kids and vets alike. His value to the team has risen this year and he is better served leading this team moving forward than being traded for a package of picks/prospects. Watching the Oilers this year has given me a much different opinion/perspective on veterans and what they mean to a rebuilding team. Trading Gio could slow down the rebuild instead of accelerate it

A NMC means you can't be demoted to the ahl without your permission while with a NTC you would just pass through waivers. Both mean you can not be traded to any nhl team without your permission.

I am in the Gio camp. Played like a champ tonight and had so many good plays. Drove through the weak offence to generate his own in most cases without jeopardy on D. Lead by example.

The intangible with Giordano that I like is that he worked his way back into the NHL after the Flames/Sutter banished him a number of years ago on a contract dispute or something along those lines. Good for him to get to where he is now.

I watched the Defending gold show before the outdoor game today and the team canada brass talked about Babcock wanting a player on the team that they didn't even have on their watch list. They don't say what player it is but they agree that they should start taking a look at him cause Babcock likes how he plays.
There's no way to know who it is for sure but I'm wondering if it might be giordano. When talking about it, Yzerman discusses whether they want a player that's going to bring just offence or a guy that's going to block shots and kill penalties as well.
I'm just thinking it could be gio cause he probably wasn't on the list and giordano is one of the best in the league at what Yzerman is talking about. Plus the media has also talked about gio being considered... Specifically CBC who made that behind the scenes look into team canada selection.
I might just be being a flames fan boy though cause I really want him on team canada.

And the red wings were very interested in giordano a few years ago when lidstrom was retiring so Babcock may have had influence then as well.

I don't understand how guys like Hamhuis or Vlasic are being mentioned ahead of Gio. That seems ridiculous to me.

I agree. Gio does everything better than them and brings other elements like speed and offensive upside that they don't. He's a better shot blocker than both of them and he has experience on the big ice surface.

Yeah... you're going to want a bigger sample size than 22 games for this. At least a full season of 70 or so, and preferably two.
