Coyotes say Doan has Rocky Mountain fever
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=696962
Wow, that's messed up. Hope he can get better soon. He was off to a great start this year.
Quote:
Rocky Mountain spotted fever is a tick-borne bacterial disease that affects the cells in the lining of your blood vessels, making the vessels leak. This can eventually cause serious damage to internal organs, particularly your kidneys.

Whew! I'm not the only one thinking he was traded. Jesus though, that's terrible. Is it easily treatable?

The first symptoms of Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF) typically begin 2-14 days after the bite of an infected tick. A tick bite is usually painless and about half of the people who develop RMSF do not remember being bitten.
|
Quote:
RMSF is a serious illness that can be fatal in the first eight days of symptoms if not treated correctly, even in previously healthy people. The progression of the disease varies greatly. Patients who are treated early may recover quickly on outpatient medication, while those who experience a more severe course may require intravenous antibiotics, prolonged hospitalization or intensive care.

Wasn't he on that Mantracker show? I guess he's a pretty avid outdoorsman... Probably explains how he got it.

It's not a virus from my understanding and can be treated with antibiotics

Take it to the Rocky Mountain Fever subforum. It's under the "People Die Every Day and it's Sad and Tragic" main forum.
This is the forum to use if people associated with the Flames die. Duh.

My bad. I was thinking of Lyme disease, nothing apparently. Rickettsia rickettsii. You are correct sir.
Edit: ok nevermind. I don't deal with microbiology very often. I will go in the corner now.
