I'd love it if the Flames could somehow get Honka in the Draft.

Very slow and not going to the corners.
What did he say during his 2nd intermission interview? I missed part of it but sounded like he self proclaimed himself a lock for the team.

Mantha better not be cut over Shinkaruk.

Bob MacKenzie was saying they need to cut 2 forwards - Shinkaruk and Mantha + 2 others I missed are vying for two roster spots.

Sorry - Meant the mini-combine that the Flames invited Petan to, not the camp. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for the guys who posted already clearing that up.

Dumba got much better as the game went on. He was (imo) literally the worst player on the ice it seemed in the first period, but got progressively better.

S.Reinhart - was the forward thrown out on that 5-3 PK. Did well too! This kid plays such a solid 200ft game. It would be tough to pass on Ekblad if the choice was there, but Reinhart really is that good.

Is it wrong to already be anticipating the next world's juniors with Klimchuk on that line instead of Horvat? lol

McKenzie said Shinkaruk and and Mantha are competing for the same spot. Seemed like he suggested he would take Shinkaruk.

Why would Mantha get cut at all? Isn't he leading the QMJHL in scoring by a large margin right now?

I don't see why Shinkaruk would get the nod over Mantha. Mantha is a much better forechecker, and he seems to do more driving the play. A much better player over-all, and you are not giving up offence at all. If cuts were to be made today, Mantha would probably get the nod over Shinkaruk.

That's why I thought it was so weird. Mantha should be guaranteed a top 6 spot. It should be no question who you cut between him and Shinkaruk.

Agreed. This is much more the type of player Sutter would like, given the style of play he encourages.

There sure is a fascination with all things Canucks these days. If Calgary had drafted a small, soft, bad attitude, stock falling Shinkaruk instead of Poirier, I get the feeling the media would be pooping on the pick. They'd say how the Flames went with the hometown kid to appease the fans even though all the other teams passed on him.

Yet, when it's the Canucks who take him, he is some god and the next great scorer. It's almost like TSN is pandering to Canuck fans to drive viewership.

I guess it's just cooler to be a Canuck fan these days then a Flames fan.

TSN has nothing to do with selecting guys to the Team Canada WJHC team so it is obviously more than just TSN that is impressed with him.

I understand that many people are sensitive about Shinkaruk but some of the comments are starting get a little ridiculous.

Even the Canucks fans on HF think he should be cut.

He's been awful in the WHL this season, and he was awful in this game.

@iancmclaren Connor McDavid eludes hit, sets up Bo Horvat in style in this morning's #WJC exhibition

I think he should and likely will be cut.

Which is why he shouldn't be close to the most talked about guy in this thread.

I hate that Horvat ended up a Canucks player.

That kid is going to be a great player and he seems to have good character.

I don't think they have a set time to announce them but in pre-game Mackenzie said he thought they would make cuts after watching this game. So maybe tomorrow morning.
