Love the way Backlund is playing right now. My one issue with him which i think the coaching staff can work on is his shoot from anywhere mentality. Way to many times he will shoot it from just inside the blue line leading the puck to deflect into the corner. I think he needs to slow down the game a little bit more and try to use his line mates in those situations.
Monahan looked a little lost out there, i can see why they benched him in the third. It is just another learning experience for him.

Backlund skated miles out there.
Detroit commentators were all over that call on Brodie, thought it was terrible, but, Calgary got a 5-3 when shane O'Brien tripped and fell going 1-4.
Game was called brutally from start to finish.

Burkie is not gonna be happy with Monahan's minutes. Remember the 16 minutes a night thing?
I guess Monahan is going through that first real rough patch, he'll battle through it.
Also Stajan needs to dealt away so Backlund and Monahan can play 1-2 minutes.

Liked most of what I saw -- thought Glennie was very sloppy and should have been benched. He looks quite poor since his return. Gio was a stud, Backs was outdoing himself, and even Butler looked pretty OK. Now if they can only learn to pass....way too many giveaways, way too many blown passes and when they get pushed, they get rattled.
That part they'll outgrow as they get used to it I guess. Moneyhands looked uncomfortable tonight, and Colborne a bit as well -- maybe it's just the learning thing.
Ramo was beaten on pretty good shots - nothing to complain about there for me.
Nice to get the point, don't think they really deserved a win (though would have been nice, too).
It ain't going to be any easier Saturday afternoon (or morning here I think).

Another good effort and another point on the road.
Terrible call but the makeup call was inevitable. And I thought almost every penalty was a bad call tonight, for both teams.
Be happy with the point and move on.
Backlund was a beast in the first two periods.

Backlund is continuing to play solid hockey. Maybe because he is being given more minutes?
The Flames were being outplayed in this game towards the end of the game, but that last call was a terrible call by the refs. Detroit refs don't surprise me. I am glad that we got a point, but of course 2 would have been better. Got to give it to Alfredsson, he certainly was ready for us.

the replay clearly showed the Detroit stick in the body and that penalty didn't give us the 5 on 3.
It was the only Detroit penalty in the period.

Yeah. ####ty "stats". Obviously you just hate on him for no reason.

Datsyuk is also 17th among all active players in career scoring, and one of only three from this list to have started his NHL career after 2000. The other two are Dany Heatley and Alex Ovechkin.

What is up with Stempniak? Another bad bad game. Fumbling the puck everywhere and another minus.

Thanks for the jinx Kerr.
"You have to wonder if they're about to wake a sleeping bear!"
He goes on to explain how Detroit has been losing all their OTs.
"And also, Alfredsson sure likes to score against Calgary!"
Clip is shown of Alfredsson scoring on Calgary in a Sens sweater.

I remember the last guy we had like that. What was his name again? ... oh right, Martin St. Louis.

I've seen a lot ah complaining about Kerr in every GDT, GT and PGT, but this is a whole new level. He's the reason they lost!

No idea how Stajan got up after ping-ponging off the boards in the third period. I've never seen anything like that.

Wow 4 pages already and only seen a couple of Glencross bad comments. Slow night at CP I guess. Not saying I am Glencross biggest fan out there but it is getting ridiculous that every single PGT, someone will ragged on Glennie. The guy just came back from knee injury so it still tough to go full out. Besides most of the hate is not deserving.
As for the game, it sucks to lose because of that late penalty. When Kerr kind of got excited saying a penalty shot... i thought that would be suck to lose on a penalty shot with few seconds left. I am not saying it doesn't suck to lose early in the OT. Backlund and Byron I thought are taking advantage of their increase ice-time. I hope they keep up. Smid impressed me. He's so competetive out there hitting everyone.

Hockey is a superstitious sport. Don't take it too seriously.
... But yes Kerr is the reason we lost.

Actually it was a smart play by Datsyuk to play up for the penalty, but a ridiculous reactionary call by the ref. He looked foolish there.
Good game though, pretty entertaining. Backlund was great. I really hope he figures out some consistency because if that becomes his regular play, he's going to be an important player on the team.

Great game by Backs, quietly impressed by SOB (way better than I thought he would be) , GlenX still looks like he is on the outside of the game , solid performance from Ramo
Good road game, ####e Refs, Byron-Lombardi comparison is bang on lotsa speed/effort no results
|
Glencross had a solid game IMO. Think is is starting to show signs of life and a return to form....looked strong in the board battles and had his feet moving.
....queue the "he doesn't try/has no heart/doesn't care" crowd.

His foot is still broken and he wasn't having a good game at all....no sense in playing him if it isn't going for him on a given night...from an injury perspective.
