10% salary cut to return home! likely doesn't really say that much bad about Vancouver, especially if we are talking 450k vs. 500k. I think you'd find it takes more than 10% to get most people to stay away from home especially if home Australia.
Around half of that mate. I didn't really want to get into specifics, people tend to get a little bit jelly. My point is Vancouverites are bad enough for me to take a sizable reduction in wage, in an excellent position, just because of the local people.

I've lived in Europe for multiple years, other nearby cities, traveled South East Asia, South America and have NEVER experienced such a large collective group of ####wits built up in one place.

I have honestly never, ever, heard that joke before in my life mate. You're a genius, a true scholar. Well done.

See I have a friend who is from Perth and he basically spends 6 months here and 6 months there every year. He absolutely loves it here.

What I don't get is how my anecdotes and your anecdotes don't match up perfectly?

Anything over 250k is what I would consider 'medium 6 figures'. It's certainly more than what you expect when someone says they earn 6, but not 'high 6'. I know very few people who make that kinda money, but lots of career people who make around what I do.

Forget I said the number. Vancouver sucks.

I did live in Vancouver for 6 months in my mid 20's.

I was making more money than I could have dreamed at the time. I lasted 6 months. I had to leave because the people were making me suicidal. I am not joking. I was at a crossroads where I was convinced my only two options were killing myself, or coming back to Calgary. The people in that city are so arrogant. The word community does not exist, as every ethnic group segregates itself into their own little corners. It borders on racism how bad it is. Vancouverites spend half their day fellating each other about how incredible their city is, and if you are from somewhere else, they will tell you how much that place you are from sucks.

Among highlights of Vancouver was getting mugged by Chinese gang members in metro town. Crashing violently roller blading in Stanley Park opening a 9 stitch gash in my leg, only to have 15 people walk past before one person offered assistance. And the irony was the guy was wearing a Saskatchewan Roughriders shirt. (Yes Rider fans are better people than Canuck fans) Had my car burglarized twice. Got kicked out of the Fountainhead Pub because I refused the advances of a gay man by laughing and saying "Dude, do I look gay!?" I had no idea it was a gay bar, and was shocked by proposition, hence my reaction. But somehow that was construed as homophobic, even after I tried to explain I had no clue it was a gay hangout.

My final straw was being escorted out of a Safeway I stopped at to get my lunch on my way into work, because I made a comment about a cashiers eyes. She was pretty fat, and I had zero interest in her, besides the fact she had these piercing blue eyes. I said "Wow, I have never seen such amazing blue eyes!" Nothing creepy. I wasn't stroking my rod in my pocket... just an innocent comment. She locked her till, went and got the manager, and was told to leave the store, and never come back. That morning, I walked into my bosses office and quit. Came home, had my stuff packed by 5:00 pm, gave the key to the landlord, and drove back to Calgary all night arriving at 4 am the next morning. I just had movers pick up my things the following week. I came back to Calgary and delivered Pizza for the next 4 months while I got back on my feet, and was never happier.

Vancouver is beautiful on the surface. But it is like a super hot chick you start dating, then you find out she has daddy issues, a raging case of herpes, and you realize when you get her naked her boobs were actually just all water bra disguising a set of floppy pancakes with saucer sized areola.

Worst City ever. I would rather live in Baghdad.

I always used to think people that hated Vancouver and BC were just jealous.
Until I actually lived there.

Show us on the doll where Vancouver touched you.

I wonder why the population keeps going up with all these anecdotal stories of people fleeing Vancouver to save themselves from suicide or to give up hundreds of thousands of dollars a year...

This is so spot on buddy. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. You should see my colleagues faces when I rant about how #### they are all.

Self-selection for d-baggery.

Decent people flee for their lives, but the population increases because even more d-bags are moving to Vancouver to replace them.

I don't really have an opinion one way or another, because I've never spent much time in Van, but the logic and clarity of many of these arguments is compelling.
