I think it's a good move. Shows that the Americans do not condone the legislation and also doesn't punish their athletes.

We should have listened to Patton's idea about the Russians at the end of WW2.

How about a camo patch for the military or a breast cancer patch or a prostrate cancer patch or a yellow ribbon patch or a cabbage patch. Enough already we get it you're gay. That's great. We recognize this. You're not going to convince the IOC. So just be gay

Why can't the Olympics be about the Olympics? Just celebrate the games.

Why wait for the Olympics? If u guys really have a passion for this cause and believe it is not right then buy a plain ticket, get over there, and protest.

Because Russia made it about the denial of human rights by announcing their intent to arrest people based on a completely vague set of criteria during said Olympics.

U.S. President Barack Obama has picked two gay athletes to be part of the U.S. [Presidential] delegation to the Sochi Olympics and won’t be attending the event himself, moves interpreted as a snub to Russia and President Vladimir Putin.
France and Germany are not sending their leaders to the games either...

Canada isn't sending Harper, and haven't announced yet if the GG will be going, who is usually Canada's representative at these events. Would be good if they didn't send him either.
Just noticed the article you posted mentioned that, silly me. It does say though at the end that Vancouver is sending a gay councilman, not the mayor, as their representative, so that's pretty big as the previous host city.

As is the right of others to protest the ridiculous laws. Even Nazi Germany hid persecution of the Jews during the Berlin Olympics. So put that in perspective. The most horrible regime in history had the self awareness to leave their policy out of the Olympics, but not Putin's Russia.

Is that true? I thought they said, or at least implied, that they wouldn't be arresting people during the Olympics. Not that that makes the protests any less appropriate.

I would like to see Canadians wear a patch. I also just want them to send an FU to putin for more than just this reason. I don't know If you guys have heard about it yet but, Last week The Canadian government proposed to the U.N. that we take over the North Pole (currentley no nation owns it.) Apon hearing this Putin got pissed and sent More combat ready troops near thier artic borders. He thinks it be an act of war( the two countrys want to lay clims since the ice is mealting it could mean more offshore drillings. Canadian foreign govenment minister literally replied " Don't worry kids, Canada will proctect Santa from the Russians" So ya Any thing to tell Putin screw you

Let me get it right, you want to say FU to Putin for moving his army within own borders? Somehow you think he is not allowed to? And in reality he did not even move any troops, he just told to speed up the forming of arctic troops, that was already going on.

I believe he's taking issue with the aggressive nature of Russia's posturing. As members of a country who would greatly benefit from territorial expansion, is it not entirely fair to take issue with a country who appears to be an aggressive inconvenience to that effort?
I'm not sure what point you're making. He's allowed to be upset about Russia being the main hinderance to expansion.

Bad news, Obama, Harper and all the other leaders already have been to Russia after this law was enforced. None of them boycotted G20 in September. They showed they have no problem coming here for real matters, so we do not care if they come to watch Olympics. And Putin did not come to Vancouver either. Do you feel embarrassed and ashamed because of it? Guess not. You probably did not even notice. This is how we feel about Harper not coming
