Carlyle Receives Kiss of Death
"The pressure right now should be placed on the players", Nonis told The Dreger Report on Wednesday. "I know Randy and the coaching staff is working hard. I'm not now, nor have I ever contemplated making a coaching change. The players have to respond."
A GM's public vote of confidence these days is a little bit like Michael kissing Fredo in The Godfather. It suggests someone's demise is imminent.
Here are some of the recent time frames between a GM's "vote of confidence" and a coach's firing, as complied by Puck Daddy:
Lindy Ruff : Vote of Confidence on February 7th, Fired on February 20th
Guy Boucher : Vote of Confidence on March 3rd, Fired on March 24th
Ralph Krueger : Vote of Neutrality (new GM) on April 14th, Fired August 6th
Glen Gulutzan : Vote of Neutrality (new GM) on April 29th, Fired on May 14th
Peter Laviolette : Vote of Confidence on September 13th, Fired on October 7th
Kevin Dineen : Vote of Confidence on November 5th, Fired on November 8th
Ron Rolston : Vote of Confidence on September 26th, Fired on November 13th
So, I'm guessing Carlyle is fired by Nonis right after Christmas
Which will lead to Carlyle being hired by the Flames - as Hartley received a "vote of confidence" from Burke at his presser.

I doubt Hartley will be fired in the middle of the season. If he goes, it'll be in the off season.

If Carlyle goes (unlikely in my opinion), it will be a race between Calgary and Winnipeg as to who can fire their current coach fast enough to hire him.

Zero. Every single time a GM has ever said something good about their coach, they fire them.

If Carlyle has any interest in going to Winnipeg then Noel would be fired and Carlyle hired faster then Sureloss breaking the news of Noel Firing. Not only a good coach but probably a crowd/local favorite.

I'd rather have Laviolette personally.

Well at least they still have Eakins raring to go and ready to be promoted....
Oh wait nevermind, although with Eakins has done in Edmonton they're probably better off.

It would be awsome if he is fired in the middle of 24/7.

Mark me down 100% as YES PLEASE if Carlyle becomes available.
hell, I'd be all for Burke trading something to the Leafs for him. He is absolutely the coach I want coaching the flames. He knows how to handle a hockey market, he knows how to win in the "new" NHL, and he doesn't suffer primadonnas or fools.
Yes please.

I was hoping we would snap him up when the ducks let him go.
Hopefully this happens, and we get him.

I'm mixed on Carlyle. The way I see it, it's hard to coach a team badly with Pronger and Niedermayer on your blueline. Since then, his coaching results have been pretty average...
