Default sim in canada for 8 days?

What are the options for this these days? I have an unlocked Verizon phone. Is there an option to get about 100 minutes of talking, and 100 MB of data?

7-11 sells Speakout sims for a reasonable price.

I don't know of a Canadin provider that does day-by-day pay as you go, unless you just grab a phone at 7-11. Unless you are out of the city for a portion of your trip, it might be best to grab a Wind sim card and do a prepaid month.

$30 for unlimited everything.

edit: To compare to the 7-11 phones, 100 mins + unlimited text 100mb data is $30. It doesn't look like you can add the plans for just a few days though, has to be 30 days. The non-value plans cost about 25 cents/min, so that is way more expensive.

Can I call US with those plans? Does WIND work in Canmore?

Neither of the options I mentioned include US calling, however:

- The SpeakOut phones at 7-11 have a decent long distance option, but I don't know the cost. Check out the website to be sure.

- The $50 wind plan includes North America Wide calling, or you can make US calls for 5 cents a min if you have the $40 plan.

Wind home zones do not include Canmore, but they offer roaming coverage there at the following rates (Through rogers, I think?).

From http://www.windmobile.ca/plans-and-d...monthly-plan-4
Quote:
20¢/min Canada/US-wide Calling
15¢/Text Canada/US -wide
25¢/Text Global Texting
$1/MB Data

Thanks for your help. I'd probably end up spending about $50 just using my Verizon phone anyway. Oh well.

You can buy just a SIM card at 7-11 for like $10 and it comes with a bunch of minutes.

You don't need to buy a phone.

They sell MicroSIMs as well.

Do you not have the option to get some kind of Canadian bundle added through Verizon? Most of the carriers up here will sell you an add-on for traveling to the US that includes so many minutes, texts, and data (though they're still stupidly expensive)

Yeah, I used to do that, but now that plan requires you to be on their share everything plan and would require me switching from a grandfathered $75/month 450min/unlimited data plan to their new $105/month unlimited voice/2gb data plan. I suppose it is worth a phone call to see if they still have an unpublished plan for their legacy users.

My wife uses Tmobile and they recently have gone unlimited text and web and 20cents per minute talk in Canada (and most of Europe). Of course, unlimited everything while in the US. Though they throttle after 2.5G of data use.

link

She pays $70 unlimited for both countries and it's seamless. I have a Wind plan up in Vancouver and straight talk down here which is over $100 for both so I'll switch to Tmobile pretty soon here.

I got one of those free with a 7-11 coupon a couple of months ago; and it didn't come with any minutes. I was going to add some, but the cheapest load I could add to the card was $30.

The only good thing about the 7-11 plans is the loads do not expire right away, they are good for a year.
