yeah, but Jay brings that on himself too, with that kind of attitude when he trumpets a kid that only played in Canadian High School hockey as the "best pick in this draft" in five years.

Should we have started the rebuild then? Probably we should have been seeding the idea of trading Iginla (which most of the national press was doing for us anyway)
Disagree there.

The Flames team that lost to Chicago could have done some damage in the playoffs if healthy. That was the Flames best team post lockout by far.

What should have happened that offseason was they should not have overreacted and threw the balance of the team off by getting rid of all our secondary scoring to bring in another big ticket d-man.

If the re-build was going to start early, it should have started the next season after they missed the playoffs for the first time.

Either you like the pick or you don't. It should have nothing whatsoever to do with your perception of Feaster's "attitude", or what you think he believes, so give it a rest.

There were plenty of discussions on this board, from people around the NHL and pundits who thought the Flames should have been sellers after Sutter had been fired and Feaster was given the interim tag.

This discussion has been going on for an extended period of time.

I don't know if you're attempting to add or disagreeing, but I think Cliff is saying you'd have to be a dolt not to see what intelligent hockey people around the league saw. Meehan, of course, is no dolt, and did or should have seen the writing on the wall as well.

Here's the rub though; would Iginla give up that amount of input and control that the organization afforded him in order to play in a more competitive situation somewhere else? It doesn't appear so.

You can't buy that kind of job security and Meehan probably knew this and intimated as much to his client.

Misread the assertion.

IMO I think if Tanguay hadn't been re-signed, I think the writing could have been made very clear.

Agreed with you there - seems like its far too easy to influence Feaster which direction to go. First its Len Barrie and Oren Koules putting him into a difficult situation, then its Ken King and Murray Edwards putting him into a difficult situation, then its Darryl Sutter putting him into a difficult position, now its Jarome Iginla and Don Meehan putting him into a difficult situation?

Because they need strength of conviction and a confidence in their instincts to be successful at what they do.

I think this talk comes up from the media spillout of Feaster's firing (FAN 960, SNET, etc) that talk around the league is that... I'm a little curious to see why Feaster has that reputation as well.

It was plainly obvious what was going on with this franchise. I'm pretty sure I'm not smarter than "knowledgeable people in the NHL" so I'm willing to wager a lot of people around the league saw that the Flames were in fact trending down because many of us could see it.
I think you mis-read what he was saying.
Admittedly he worded it in a really complicated way - but I think he's saying that most people felt the Flames were trending down.

I'm not actually talking about Feaster. At least, not exclusively so. Flames ownership, Ken King, and Sutter were far, far too accommodating of Jarome, and his ideas with regards to player acquisitions, and I suspect also coaching personnel.

It's a lot of fun to watch. But it's all calculated for effect.

That I agree with, and Feaster really should have put a stop to it. I think Feaster - more then Darryl - got cozy with Iginla and made the Flames "Iginla and friends" - I like Iginla and everything, but don't let him run your team. Since we became the "Iginla and friends" team things just went down hill from there.

McKenzie on insider trading:
  • while Flames have gotten permission to talk to Nieuwendyk, they haven't talked to him yet
  • according to McKenzie haven't asked for permission to talk to anyone else
  • may wait till the end of the season if the person they want isn't available
  • Buffalo's time frame is to hire someone in January.
