That won't be HNIC as we all know it
Rogers has full control over content and talent.
So it'll basically be SN but on a CBC channel

I think technically you maybe right but I dont think Sportsnet is going to mess with it too much. Its a proven commodity and they have lots of work to do to take care of their own national broadcasts. I do think you will see SN faces on the HotStove etc but I think HNIC will look very similar.

as an aside, i wonder if tSN will attempt to fill some of the holes in it's schedule with some of it's own 24/7 programming.....Lorne Greene would have been an excellent vioce to do this - except for the being dead thing.....

I've agreed to a long-term extension to remain at TSN, where I've wanted to be all along. Looking forward to exciting times ahead!
Well, there goes one guy off of the TSN talent list that would make the jump over to SN.

Personally I'm glad people like Miller have professional standards choosing to stay with a more professional network over amateur hour in comparison Sportsnet. Knowing how RSN likes to cheap out on talent I'm sure they were probably asking these guys take a pay cut to come over. I hope Cuthbert stays as well as he's too good a talent to be associated with Sportsnet. He and Miller can do most of the CFL season and junior/international hockey.

The whole contracting out thing is blown out of proportion. For most of the 80s and early 90s, CBC contracted out the production of HNIC to Molstar Communications (the same group that did Flames broadcasts on 2&7).

Sportsnet might be amateur hour, but the opportunity to call hockey games, including ones on CBC, might be too tempting for Cuthbert to pass up. He's a hockey guy, and he's not going to be able to call that stuff with TSN shortly.
I, for one, would love to see Cuthbert on Sportsnet West, and see Rob Kerr go. But I'm probably living in a dream world.

You assume things will remain static. It seems more likely to me that Rogers will soon be out-spending TSN for talent, and spending more on production.

Kerr takes a lot of heat.
But Simmer is flat out terrible. He brings no enthusiasm, no insight, and no new stories for the last 5 years or so. It's just the same old mundane clichés, night after night.
And again, he seems to not care about the Flames in the slightest - completely indifferent towards them.

You know a lot more about the behind the scenes stuff than me so just wondering if you think HNIC next year will look like it has this year or do you think it will folow the SN format?
I think it will be pretty close to a SN telecast.

Darren Dreger@DarrenDreger7m
Happy to report @Real_ESPNLeBrun has agreed to terms with TSN and will remain an integral part of our hockey department for years to come.

It seems that TSN is locking up talent partly so they can keep them, but also so Rogers can't have them.

Well as of right now that's speculation as it remains to be seen how much money is left over after spending a massive wad of Rogers money on the rights alone. As of right now all we have to go on is the current shoddy product and hiring policies of finding talent on the cheap.
