If I had to guess? Drafting. Only because that is what he's looking for.

Either way, with Burke at the helm, the Flames are set up for success.

If it is Dave Poulin I want someone to ask him about stealing the Selke from Colin Patterson.

Fan960 saying that Burke's been in Toronto the past few days and that he wasn't in New York for the game and won't be in Boston.

So what do we know about this Poulin character and do we want him to be the new GM?

I like Poulin, and think he'd be a strong choice. Better than Loiselle, IMO. Of course, that's based on basically nothing other than good vibrations from the guy. But let's be honest, that's all any of us have to go on. Coached 4 years at Notre Dame, been VP Hockey Ops in Toronto for the last 4, part of which he's handled the GM duties for the Marlies.
It's tough to really know much about each candidate's portfolios in their current jobs. But Poulin to me has always seemed exceptionally smart and well-spoken. Obviously the relationship with Burke will be strong. Not sure of his scouting creds, but he does seem to be more of the drafting/trading/development guy to Loiselle's contracts/admin/cap.

With Benning likely going to Buffalo, Futa and Treveling not being made available, and Hextall next in line for dead-man-walking Holmgren's gig, I think Burke's choice is between Fenton and Poulin. Makes sense to go with the guy he knows.

If Burke is replacing both Feaster and Weisbrod, is out of the question that he brings in BOTH Poulin and Loiselle?

Not out of the question, but I highly doubt Nonis would be on board for losing his two right hand men. Plus, I don't think Burke would do that to his friend and longest-serving colleague.

Maybe Nonis is coming with them
That would be a big FU to MLSE.

Poulin is a bit outside my wheelhouse for guys I'm familiar with, but he seems to be well respected.
I'd still rather Benning, and maybe it's only because Boston has that "it" factor to it, but we saw what it was like when we brought Weisbrod over. It helped, but it's not like he did a fantastic job.

I'll be fairly comfortable with whoever it is, as all the guys that seem to be in the mix are fresh faces, so what can we REALLY know about them?

possibly but Burke did say the GM would hire his own Asst. So at least for appearance sake he has to let it look like thats how it happened

Feaster and Weisbrod relieved of duties. Burke will hire a new GM

I hope Burke actually goes through the list and interviews them ones we can and doesn't just settle on a guy he knows. It's time this organization went outside of interviewing 1 candidate.
Jay feaster was just given the gm job we didn't even conduct a search

The search for a coach was a sham, we all knew Hartley was coming

After the interviews over if Dave is the guy then sure lets hire him, but going with the guys you know always has no helped this franchise.

We know for a fact that he has received permission from Dallas to talk to Nieuwendyk, and Boston to talk to Benning, plus Toronto to talk to Poulin and probably Loiselle. That's 4 candidates spoken with or interviewed in less than a week.

Sources say Dallas has granted Calgary permission to speak with Joe Nieuwendyk . #TSN
Poulin/Loiselle permission hasn't been reported according to my knowledge, but Burke has been in Toronto for the last 48 hours and was seen on HNIC chatting with both. I'm guessing between Nonis and Burke the permission thing is a formality.

It would be so awesome to have Loob in the fold. All he's done since taking over duties at Farjestad is turn them into the SEL's Detroit Red Wings. I was hoping we could have had him as President someday, I don't think he would be good under Burke.

Also, I'll be pretty disappointed if it's one of the Leafs guys. Of the ones who are targets, their resumes are the worst and it would come across as a really lazy search by Burke.

If the Leafs are such a hotbed of managerial talent why do they suck so badly? Would prefer to draw talent from an actual winning program (e.g. Boston) or at least one that seems to get the most out of their resources.
