Actually, he put a time frame on it.
It may not be conscious, but I think it is, he gave them a time frame until the end of the season and then would let his new GM pick his staff.
Basically, that's the end point, the hire for the new GM.

As a kid I remember Dugay was the prototypical NY personality. He was in Goal magazine 25 years ago or so and had just married Carol Alt, who is now hooked in with Yashin.
