I'm starting to think, the only person in this thread that shouldn't lose his licence is laner.
It doesn't say in the driving handbook that you can get a ticket for not yielding to someone going over the speed limit.

(I can't get the PDF to open.)
2(1) A person shall not do any of the following:
drive a vehicle at such a slow rate of speed so as to impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic then existing on a highway except when it is necessary to do so for the safe operation of the vehicle or to comply with Parts 1 and 2.
Bottom line, let the police do the policing of traffic laws.

I was always taught to drive with the speed of traffic. If the right lane is 110km and the left is 125km, you are being more dangerous by slowly poking along in the left lane like it is your "right". You are not doing anything but being a smug idiot, that is actually being a bigger danger then the "morons" you seem to be on a crusade against.
I sentence you to drive in a major city or highway in Europe where you would last approx 2 1/2 seconds, with your attitude.

This is 100% correct...when not speeding. You can't drive 30km/h on the highway or you become a hazard. An example that would apply to the above, a snowstorm, fog, passing a tow truck or other vehicle on the side of the road.
I don't see how this apply's to going 100km/h in the left lane on deerfoot.
If it was legal to speed to pass a vehicle, anybody could go 150km/h all the way down deerfoot or the highway and say they were passing vehicles the whole way. Probably not gonna fly in court.

I believe this is one of those laws that are of discretion. It's there so it can be enforced if someone is speeding excessively. But passing ~10 km/h over the rest of the traffic flow on a freeway is no big deal.

Nope, sorry. Illegal. Breaking the law. And it's a god given right to be a twat and not be courteous on the road.
Congrats, Laner. I bet you're a heck of a guy to be friends with.

Following the law isn't really policing. Speeding and accidents affect my insurance rates so if someone is following the rules of the road, more power to them.
For the white knuckle driver going 60km/h in the left or middle lane, that's a hazard.

Who cares if blocking the left lane at speed is illegal or not, it's dangerous and serves no purpose. Is it really the best idea to interfere with other vehicles just to get a tiny thrill of control?
This is how you identify one class of bad drivers - people that drive to prove some kind of esoteric point, instead of using their vehicle to get from A to B. Justify yourself however you want, if you do it, you're crap at driving.

If you don't see how "impeding the flow of traffic" applies, then you should probably sell your vehicle and get a bus pass.
It's been said by others - but trolls like Laner99 create far more dangerous situations on Deerfoot than a guy doing 110 does.

I'm not saying i do it, i'm saying technically laner isn't doing anything wrong other than intentionally trying to annoy other drivers.

That's the part that mystifies me. If you can't understand that a road like Deerfoot, with it's 100kph limit has areas where it's safe to go faster, and areas where it's probably better to go slower, then you don't deserve to drive.
If you're not comfortable going 100 while rounding the bend on Calf Robe, then I understand. But once you're down by Mackenzie Towne, or up by Beddington, 110 or more, is pretty easy to do safely.
But there's always a d-bag that does 100 in the left lane in those areas, because he can. It simply is a dick move, and people that take pleasure in that are just selfish morons that may think they're "being safe", but they're not.
I just don't understand that mentality. Why on earth would you want to deliberately be an a-hole to complete strangers? How do you take pleasure in pissing people off for no reason? How does it make you happy to know that other people are frustrated by your presence?
Is it a result of not enough love as a child? Bullied in school, and now you're asserting yourself? What is going on in the minds of these people? If you wake up in the morning, and actively decide to be a pain in the ass, you've got problems. Whatever it is, I don't care anymore. I'll continue to pass these people when the opportunity comes, and not really worry about it too much. It used to really get me going, but it's not worth it. I've got way better things to think about than individual a-holes. It's mildly amusing to think about it here on the internet, but while I'm driving, I'd rather be happy. Go ahead and be a dink in front of me. I'll get by eventually. If that's really all you have in life, is to take pleasure in being an a-hole, well, I guess all I can do is take it away from you by not getting riled up about it.

Actually, it says nothing about driving at the posted speed limit but rather the pace for " the normal and reasonable movement of traffic".

The basic drivers handbook isn't the holy gospel of traffic laws. Check the Traffic Safety Act.
If someone's going 150 in a 100, then sure screw him. But using the QE2 as an example, where traffic is usually going 120-130, and you get one doofus trudging along at 105km/hr and completely ignoring safe lane discipline, who's the greater hazard?
Traffic is safest when it's moving in the same direction, at the same speed. To a point, of course, but like I mentioned before, this summer the RCMP started cracking down on left lane warriors.

Who decides what normal and reasonable traffic movement is? In court could you use that argument? To me on stoney normal is 140km/h. Deerfoot i think 130km/h is reasonable for me, except at the the calf robe bridge probably only 110 to make the turn, depends on the vehicle i'm driving.

I think the road speed limit that drives me the most crazy in calgary is the 80 on Crowchild everywhere except between 17th and MacMahon. That thing should be at least 100. Divided, multi-lane, onramps ... why is that thing 80?

Back to where we started. If there are vehicles behind you and nobody in front of you, then move over to the right.

Assuming deerfoot or hwy.

The rule is "keep right except to pass". So, technically, he is doing something wrong actually.
