Monohan doesn't play for Calgary but Monahan does and he said he'd rather stay with the Flames than play in the WJC. He's not going to the WJC.

Sort of OT here, but I'm kind of curious to see what happens with Ward in Abbotsford.
I don't think he's a Burke-style coach. Does that mean he stays with the Heat?

I wouldn't mind him as the Flames next HC, but under Burke, that seems unlikely.

I don't really follow the Heat that much. To your point, what does Ward do / not do that has a significant amount of folks so excited about him?

Through no fault of his own I'm sure, it's not like he's winning championships or turning out top performing prospect after prospect to the big club. But given that lack of "obivous" results to those of us who follow mostly the big club, what are the intangibles Heat fans see that gets them all excited about this guy?

Eakins isn't exactly what I would call a typical Burke coach so given the Heat's success this season that Ward's job may be safe and heck who knows maybe the incoming GM likes him enough to interview him for the HC job.

Burke wants big rugged Dmen that can bruise. Calgary has maybe 3 that fit the bill - Gio, Smid and SOB.

Will Wideman, Brodie, Russell and Butler be playing for a new team in the near future.

The forward group is not much bigger - we have Ern, D Jones, Colborne, Glencross, Bouma and to a lesser extent B Jones, Galiardi. Monohan is not big or intimidating but we know he is going nowhere.

That leaves Stajan, Hudler, Cammalleri, Stempniak, Byron and Backlund.

Who will stay and who will be gone? I'm sure some players are wondering.
You are making too much out of the size issue (if you can even call it that). He went hard for Kessel who is barely 6 feet and would never be confused with a hard-nosed bang & crash type winger, in fact he's quite soft. I think you can't have a team of all giants and every team needs the smaller, quicker, highly skilled guys in their line-ups as well. Patrick Kane won the Conn Smythe this past summer. He's 5'10" / 185 lb but had two 6+ feet, 200+ lb teammates on his line. There is absolutely a spot for Sven and Gaudreau, they just need some bigger guys (who also have skill) on their lines and I think that's what Burke is going for. I really don't think he's going to trade some of our most highly touted prospects, just because they're small in stature. Have we learned nothing from Martin St. Louis? If, and that's a big if, Burke is shopping Sven, he still has tremendous trade value who oozes potential, so the return would be significant. I think Burke's philosophy of have size/grit and being hard to play against is a great thing, and I would suspect he will be looking for those characteristics in any players acquired at the deadline for our assets that are on the trade block (or draft those types of players with draft picks received). Also, he's not going to be acquiring players that have size and nothing else, i.e. Cammy for Jared Boll. But if given the choice between two similarly skilled players, the one that has more size is probably the one he'd be leaning towards.

I'm on a cell mistakes happen. and I think you need to rewatch the video. He does say It would be something he would of like to do but it was not up to him. He was happy knowing he was that highly thought of tho.

I find it funny when people say Burke only likes bruisers. Does Phil Kessel ring a bell?

All of a sudden that 4th year of school is looking better and better for Gaudreau.

I think Burke tries to unload Stajan again.

After watching Burke at the first intermission, he's not impressed with Baertschi and Jankowski. Pretty clear IMO

He wasn't a really a big fan of the Heat either, said there aren't any pure prospects down there.

Funny I think this is the best and youngest AHL team we've had in years, Ferland, Granlund, Reinhart, Wotherspoon and Knight all look like solid prospects to me, not NHL all-stars maybe but all guys who look like they will be players at the next level.

I'm still trying to decide whether I think Burke just has a higher standard than I do as a long time Flames fan with a barren farm system or if he's just a negative blowhard with no filter between mouth and brain.

Not true. He said he wasn't sure how many pure prospects the farm team had.
