Flames Who is next on Burke's List?

So Sven is sent back to Abbie. Who do you think will be the next player that does not fit Burke's criteria to be sent packing?

Burke wants big rugged Dmen that can bruise. Calgary has maybe 3 that fit the bill - Gio, Smid and SOB.

Will Wideman, Brodie, Russell and Butler be playing for a new team in the near future.

The forward group is not much bigger - we have Ern, D Jones, Colborne, Glencross, Bouma and to a lesser extent B Jones, Galiardi. Monohan is not big or intimidating but we know he is going nowhere.

That leaves Stajan, Hudler, Cammalleri, Stempniak, Byron and Backlund.

Who will stay and who will be gone? I'm sure some players are wondering.

Didn't realize Burke traded Sven? When did that happen? Didn't realize he's no longer part of this organization. What did we get for him?

Burke didn't say that he doesn't like Baertschi, he said that Baertschi has a lot to learn about playing in the NHL. He didn't say that he wants Baertschi to go out and hit everything in site, he just eants Baertschi to be better in every aspect of the ice. There is no controversy between Burke and how he feels about Baertschi, it is quite simple. People need to stop dreaming up stuff that wasn't said.

I know, but sending someone to Abby is very different from sending them packing, or saying the player doesn't fit "Burke's criteria". I was being sarcastic

What list was Sven on? The prospects list? Monahan is probably next, though most would argue that he's a slightly better prospect than Sven.

Sending a young player to the AHL is pretty commonplace in the modern NHL. Playing with the Heat, who have been amazing for the last month, should do wonders for his confidence. A lot depends on how he mentally copes with it I guess. No reason to think he won't eventually return from this setback and become the NHL player we all (including Burke & Hartley) expect him to be.

Moving Sven was absolutely the right move. I don't think it was as much that he can't play at this level but more of getting him a lot of minutes in offensive situations. He's not built to be a 3rd liner. Bouma, Byron, Jones, Galiardi are much better suited for this role. Not much room at the top for Sven at the moment. He'll be back.

Burke wants to change the make up of the team and I am on board with that. The man is not an idiot when it comes to hockey and will make moves that he feels make the club better. Don't believe for one minute there is a list of guys that have to go. I am ok with anyone moving as long as the return is much greater.

Nobody is safe IMO possibly even Monahan, Burke admitts he is not a man of patience. I have no doubts he rules the roost and will continue to be the main influence in all transactions even once he hires a new GM.

He likes beef with talent I believe he said, he thinks the bottom 6 forwards should be bruisers.

I can see Glencross getting pressure from Burke if he starts to float.

Interesting times ahead indeed.

If Burke doesn't like a player he is going to let Hartley know, I think that's one thing that we count on. My gut feeling tells me that Burke may have had some differences of opinion with Feaster and Weisbrod on Sven not being sent down. Especially considering Sven gets sent down the same day they got fired.

If Burke feels some players are not contributing they won't be here very long. I used to cringe when we kept players like Anders Erikson especially during the playoffs. It would be nice if we had a full roster of players that can be counted on but then again CP would probably still have one falling out of favor.

You really think that a 19 year old center who is on pace for a 50+ point season in his first NHL season might not be safe?

I realize that if 99 can get traded, anyone can, but that would have to be one heck of a package coming back our way. Burke said he's impatient, he didn't say he was an idiot.

Well he(Monahan) has not achieved that yet has he? I did say possibly. If Monahan continues his success then yes he is safe and you are 100% correct, however if he dramatically drops off I can see Burke doing something. Unlikely but possible.

Baertschi being sent to the minors is neither here nor there. However, I think a couple guys - namely Stajan and Backlund - won't be here after the trade deadline. It seems like Burke's approach is if you're not a reliable scorer, you better be a bruiser. Those guys are neither.

I don't get where the "Burke hates Baertschi" sentiments come from either. He needs to learn how to play in all three zones or he'll end up just like those hotdogging injury magnets up north.

well it he sure as heck won't trade him. all he could do is send him back to ottowa ( why at this point of the season?) or bench him.

The safest player in the organization is Monahan at this point. I think any hopes Stajan had about coming back are gone. Same with Cammy, and Stempniak.
