Default Ken King

King is someone who has escaped mention with everything going on today. There are reports of King being surprised by the timing of today`s move and not being in favor of Feaster being fired. Does this signal the end of his influence for both the front office and on ice product of the team? Is this truly Burke's team now or will King still have influence in the nuts and bolts of the organization?

In my experience people like King, and Burke for that matter, don't let go of the wheel unless forced to.

King says he didn't want Sutter gone either.

If he gets in front of Burke he's going to get bulldozed.

King had better be really careful since he's not the one signing pay checks.

Burke's the kind of guy that'll rip the steering wheel from the hands of someone needlessly holding on.

I believer that Burke stated in his presser that he presented his findings and recommendations to the ownership group with Ken King being there. Why would Ken King suddenly be surprised? Where exactly are these reports coming from, as Burke himself told the ownership group how long it would take him to review the organization, and he presented the findings to the ownership group and KK. Seems like he was completely in the loop.

Where did you get these 'reports'?

King wasn't surprised, he played/ feigned not knowing because the official announcement wasn't made. Burke himself said he presented to king and the owners.

Only thing I can think of was the rmillions tweet claiming King was shaking his head or something but that could just be the media stirring the pot as usual.

Not sure why we should care what Ken King thinks. Brian Burke has forgot more about the game in the last month than King knows about the game.

Ken has proven himself to be a great businessman and has run the business side of the Flames very effectively over the past decade. But, as many of us have noticed, he started getting a lot more "hands on" with regards to Hockey OP's in the last few years, you only need to go to one of the behind the scenes season ticket holders meetings and listen to him talk to know that to be true.

The Feaster/Wisebrod firings, along with Ken reportedly "shaking his head" at Roger M during (before?) the press conference makes me think, as I hoped when Burke was hired, that Murray Edwards has finally wised up and advised Ken he no longer has any say with regards to hockey OP's.

Should be interesting to see how the Burke/King relationship evolves over time.

Some of you may be reading too much into King shaking his head at Roger. Besides there's a reason he was asked to step aside so Burke could make the ultimate hockey decisions. As King got more involved in hockey operations over the years the team got worse and worse and under him there were numerous mistakes from the Phaneuf deal, holding on to Iginla for far too long trying to win with a flawed roster, the ROR debacle, etc. Right now King is doing the job he is qualified for and that means he has to accept the decisions of the hockey man the owners hired to make.

Shaking of the head doesn't necissarily mean King was surprised or not on board. Just an acknowledgement of the fact letting people go...........from all nice reports nice people is never fun or easy. I'm sure it was a tough day for the Flames brass, and not just the ones that got the punt.

Also, I realize you weren't suggesting it did.

Correct me if Im wrong, but didn't Burke say he and King were discussing the firing before hand? Sounds to me like he was aware of it and involved in the decision.

I recall King said something to the effect that he gave Burke free reins and that there was not a time period for Burke contract wise. I wish I could find the comments. King might not have a whole lot of say on how things will be done on the hockey side now that he has made Burke his hire. I think Feaster liked to work with a plan and process where as Burke likes to cut to the chase. I don't know how I feel about Burke decisions but I do sense some expectations are going to raised.

Regardless of the structure set up with the hiring of Burke, of King still has Murray's ear, and Murray is still a 'hands-on' owner...

Do people really think Burke went rogue and fired Feaster against the wishes of King and / or Edwards?

I think Kinger isn't the only one that needs to do some head shaking

I think the only thing still keeping King employed is the new stadium planning.

What a bunch of garbage.

Ken King in his role as President has been an absolute superstar. Remember where this team is in terms of revenue and where it was when he started. There is no way we are near a cap team without Ken King.

Burke isn't a threat to King. They have two essential roles in the organization, but they aren't going to get in each other's kitchen.
