I don't think it's about that at all, trout.
I think it's about maximizing assets this year and getting someone in to capitalize on the accumulated picks calgary looks to want to get by the draft for their UFAs.

I get that I only just now saw this and everyone's moved on, and that I mostly follow along and rarely get involved in the Flames chatter but still....
Holy crap. Wow.

Maybe this will be the end of the stupid HockeyIQ and Intellectual Honesty lame a$$ catchphrases that perpetuate themselves in Calgary media and this message board courtesy of Feaster. So sick of hearing phrases that are strictly for the sake of sounding like you know what you're talking about.

But he should have never traded Bouwmeester if that was the return. Bouwmeester was 29 years old with an additional year left. It's not proposterous to rebuild around Bouwmeester, Captain Giordano, Wideman and Brodie. Adding Russell to that would have sent Butler to Mars.
|
I have been saying all along that rushing to trade Bouwmeester made absolutely zero sense. He wasn't about to become a UFA and the great "cap space" advantage is not going to be used at all

Booyah! I knew this was going to happen. A bit sooner than expected, but the day Burke was hired, the organization is serious about making this team bigger and faster. With the draft choices that they got over the past several seasons and the trades that they got back, this team is so frickin' small, it's totally laughable! Now, we'll see Burke work his magic and get some real NHL players in the lineup over the course of this next few years. Bigger, faster, with center depth, better d-men, and better goalies. Total rebuild.
Flames had 3 first round picks in the last deep draft and only one was good - that was Monahan. They wasted their picks that came from J-Bo and Iggy trades. Weisbrod is a tool! Even with Monahan, he's not the team's franchise like that of Iggy by any means. Flames need to sink deep and get a franchise player in this next couple of years.

Feaster didn't give Iginla the NMC, so I believe he gets a pass on that one. Getting value for guys with a NMC is next to impossible.

I don't think Burke bought your excuse. This is a man after all that was used to getting 1st round picks and top prospect in return for broken down players like Kaberle or getting Lupul, Gardiner and a 4th for Beauchemin.

Moving anyone to get wins right now is utterly idiotic. We WANT to suck. The best player in ten years is going to be drafted first overall in 2015 and anything we do to jeopardize a 25% shot at that player is friggin' stupid.

Poirier was the only "stretch" pick but so far it looks good.

And also the fact that it's accepted practice to get a player to sign off on a list of teams they will waive the NTC for. This looks like a piece of administration that was not handled properly by Feaster to the detriment of the franchise.

I agree don't rush things...but also don't give everyone a pass and say it takes 3-5 years
it takes as long as it takes, being ####ty for 3,5,10 years doesn't guarantee anything

The second, CRITICAL, lapse in administration, with O'Reilly being the first.

It's obvious that Burke gave them a fair shot but there was simply just too much incompetence and Burke felt the team couldn't carry on any longer with these guys making decisions.

Edmonton Oilers hate this. Thinks Burke will complete two rebuilds before they finish one.
I like this even more.

The more i think about it the more I do agree that this is the right move. The asset management has been fairly horrendous.
Bouwmeester/Regehr/Iginla all traded and the only guys actually playing on the Flames right now from those three trades combined are Reto Berra, Chris Butler, and Paul Byron. No matter how you spin that, yikes that doesn't look good.

Yeah, I think all he means is that worn't be culture of losing.
They will push the team hard to win every year, and replace guys that have a problem with that.

I'm starting to get worked up the more I think about it. The return for Iginla from Pittsburg was terrible.
