My guess is Burke is okay with Gadreau but not okay with Backlund, Baertschi. I am guessing they are moved out and so is a guy like Kris Russel. And he wasn't a fan of getting guys like Cundari either.
Interesting to hear him only mention Monahan as the only future player.

Kinda related but unrelated, why does seem like the most clueless fans comment on news like this on TSN and Facebook

He never said it was...it was just a current frustration, which he was very careful to place in the "near term" category with how he spoke about it...not the "long term" category in which he spoke about Feaster's firing.

I tend to agree but that doesn't explain acquiring Colborne then. Dude plays small.

A first round pick was expected for both Iginla and Bouwmeester as a starting point as we had seen lesser players over the years been traded for first round picks but that fact that Feaster couldn't get another pick with either guy or a prospect in the Blues and Penguins top 10 is just bad. Berra is likely the best we are going to see from the four other players.

I hope this sudden Feaster firing wasn't related to Johnny Gaudreau signing or lack thereof now and into this future. Feaster has made some lateral trades and some very good trades. Hudler has just been excellent as well as Wideman.
Also, the Flames organization is now habitual in bring in major organizational players that aren't there to threaten the existing "GM"'s position or mandate and then firing them shortly thereafter, so this timeframe doesn't shock me. This has been a continual pattern.

Because they are...compared to most contending teams and also a lot of the bottom feeders.
The problem is that a lot of people are comparing the cupboard to previous iterations of the Flames, which were amongst the very worst prospect pools in the NHL.

There's a pervasive meme around here that the Flames prioritized "Doing Iginla Right" rather than maximizing his value to explain why the Pittsburg trade debacle happened.
Could it be that maybe we were just being fanciful and revisionist to try to justify Feaster's bad handling of that situation?
Because Burke said in his recommendation to management that trade values were a problem and was a reason to let Feaster go. It would be fairly two-faced to fire Feaster for not getting full value for Iginla if the organization wanted to "Do Him Right."

He probably hopes that Colborne can learn how to use his body to play big.

While I agree with you in that respect, there is one thing Colborne has been doing well and that is trying to work on flaws / suggestions. Heck, he was even listening to Rhett's advice to stay after practice and start spending extra time working on his tip ins.
Burke probably thinks he is moldable.

Not a fan of this. Not a fan of Burke in general. In my mind he's one of the most overrated managers of the last 15 years.
The biggest problem is the signalling that the ownership is already frustrated with the lack of progress. Rebuilds need to hit rock bottom and that was supposed to be this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of "acceleration" moves like the Kessel move. And like the Kessel move, they will accelerate the rebuild but cut off the top end of where it can get to.
To me, this stinks of status quo "make the playoffs and who knows what happens" mediocrity. This move is way more about the direction of the team than it is about whether or not Jay should be fired.
Ugh. Just not happy about this.

Yeah things improved under Feaster/Wisebrod but the Flames were so far worse than any team that coming a long way meant going from 30th to maybe 20th. I wouldn't put the Flames top prospects as top 15 in the league but it is better but there truly was nowhere to go but up from what Darryl left.

It sounds like Burke might be using ricardodw as his CP posting name.
There was very little chance of Gaudreau reaching his potential on this small soft team. Likely Feaster was saying he would like to hang on to Stempniak and Stajan and re-sign Cammalleri as a UFA.
There is room for 3 small players on this team Brodie, Hudler and Gaudreau or Baertschi or Backlund.
Between the lines he has already told Baertschi and Backlund that if they want to be Flames they have to play bigger.

Surprised to see this happen so soon. Weisbrod and Feaster are kind of a package deal so not surprised both were fired at the same time. No one here knows how positively or negatively Weisbrod has been for this organization. He has gotten a lot of praise for things the fans have imagined that he had a lot do with.
Time will tell if Burke can make this team into a Stanley Cup contender. The roster can't get much worse.

This is our problem. I too didn't think he was doing a horrible job. But as fans, we need to demand better. This is a really tough league, and our GM was not doing enough to make the team better. The team got worse all three years he was here, and there seemed to be no true vision for where they wanted to go.
There's also a myriad of lost trades; yes, Russell for a 5th was a good trade. Cammalleri for Bourque was a good trade. Every major trade Feaster orchestrated was a disaster.
Buffalo got more for Regehr two years later. Two 2nds vs Butler and Byron? Seriously?
Iggy and Bo trades were atrocious. Hanowski looks like he'll be a dime-a-dozen player, who knows with Agostino. Cundari can't crack the worst defence in the NHL 30 games into a bottom three finish. Berra might be something but he gives up awful goals at the worst times.
So yeah. Feaster had his chances. His drafts seemed decent. We need better.

Well it's not the first time in big business a manager ends up the fall guy for decisions made above him. The ROR debacle was probably the beginning of the end anyway.
