Burke went on about building the 'beef' into the bottom two lines. I think Backlund's days are numbered.

What's kind of interesting is that it appears Todd Button will survive another GM change.
How many lives does he have especially after what Burke said in his PC about emphasis on drafting.

Even weaker that you felt the need to invent words to put in my mouth. But i can do it too, if you like: You're basically crediting Burke for success that his successor enjoyed in Vancouver and you are crediting him for success that his predecessor's work created in Anaheim. In short, you're bending facts in one case or the other to fit the narrative you wish to invent.
Ultimately though, I did not say he had nothing to do with Anaheim's championship. I said he got lucky. He had a perfect storm of opportunity that simply does not exist here, so pretending that the "Anaheim blueprint" is the way to go is great and easy to say... but you'll have to show me where there are HHOF calibre players lining up to play here because (1) his brother is already in town and (2) he's had success here and is coming back after chasing the Cup elsewhere ended in disaster. I'll give Burke credit for winning the Pronger sweepstakes, but again, I don't see HHOF calibre defencemen looking to get out of bad situations.
Burke is right in the need to get bigger. That was obvious given the division we are in. And I am not arguing against the decision to fire Feaster. But the simple truth is, I believe Burke's reputation is built primarily on being a loudmouth and that I do not have high confidence that he - and whatever puppet he brings in to pretend to be GM - is the right person to build this team.

The more and more I look at it, I think its Mike Futa. Futa also may have connections to BB as he is from the GTA and was a GM in the OHL.
Futa is also a hockey guy, and educated (York).
Director of Amateur scouting on a team that has been very good... just look at their 3rd string goalie right now.
Mike Futa also drafted a big/tough team with a lot of success.....
Also fits in line as Buffalo has interviewed Futa, fits that Futa is currently employed (obviously).....

Oh, you're a psychic are you?
Who pray tell are these players that they've drafted and/or acquired since beginning the rebuild that "will never win in the NHL"?
It's blather. Burke built a loser in Toronto, I don't think he has any special insight into what will win in the NHL over and above anyone with hockey ops experience.

My worry here is we could easilly now kiss goodbye to picking anywhere close to top 3.
Feaster did a good job of tanking this team (by accident or design)
Seems to me Hartley has the impossible mandate now
- produce a gritty hardworking team that turn leads into wins
- accelerate the rebuild which means we need to pick top 3 or better next couple years

I wonder if Franklin will ask Feaster "Where do you go from here?"

Maybe Todd knows what he is doing when it comes to drafting (or playing office politics)

But really - it doesn't matter. The conversation has moved on. I'll just let it drop.

Feaster bungled his years in Calgary as the team got progressively worse and more asset deprived.
A 3 months span of significant errors last spring was seemingly the final nail.

No see you are looking at it all wrong. Button was being held back by all the previous management team incarnations......
Now is he free to spread his wings, watch out world!

Most likely answer is he has compromising pictures of Murray Edwards.

Iginla sure.. backed into a corner.
But he should have never traded Bouwmeester if that was the return. Bouwmeester was 29 years old with an additional year left. It's not proposterous to rebuild around Bouwmeester, Captain Giordano, Wideman and Brodie. Adding Russell to that would have sent Butler to Mars.

burke on baertchi on fan just now:
- saw portland a lot, liked him, still does
- doesn't seem committed to being a fulltime NHLer and not interested in 2 of the 3 zones
- should be able to learn that (positional, etc) and has work to do

Burke did say that it was a GMs job to put the staff in place so he will leave it up to the new GM to make the appropriate changes.

Burke on Sven:
Thinks he has upside, has seen improvement since he called him out. However, doesn't think he is committed to being an NHL player yet. Hasn't gotten his mind around what it takes.
A few other things I didn't catch, but that was about the just of it.

-Sven is a much more complete player than when Burke yelled at him before the season, but he has more work to do. Consistency and commitment to being an NHL player are key.
