Brian Burke wants to make a trade for Evander Kane Feaster and Weisbrod disaggreed with him in what it would cost to bring him to Calgary so he fired both of them.Kane to Calgary for 2 1sts just like Kessel to Toronto before Christmas mark my words.

Pretty shocked. If this was going to happen in thought it would have happened a while ago or this summer but not mid-season.

Will Burke takeover or is Reigier coming on board?

Burke will not be the new GM

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 9s
Hearing Burke has already begun process of contacting GM candidates. I suspect some familiar names such as Nieuwendyk will be on the list..

Nieuwendyk makes me nervous.

Listening to the Fan960, they are really throwing Feaster under the bus, naming the O'Reilly offersheet and Jankowski pick as some of Feaster's major faults <shakes head>

Jay Feaster ran through his pudding budget too quickly and had to be relieved of duty

The timing is fine. What's the point of waiting to finish a season? Don't give him time to screw something up.

Yup. After the ROR screw up, Feaster was put on mute - you knew from that point on the clock was ticking. I thought Feaster had till the end of the year.

Now he can take things his direction. Will be very, very interested to see where he goes. Will he be GM or will he hire a guy? What does this mean for Hartley? Conroy?

Biggest non-player news since Darryl Sutter was fired IMO.
Agreed. Succession planning though.... Darryl's was hired knowing he would be the GM and Craig Button would be fired. Feaster stayed on the job only long enough for him to get caught up on speed on who is what for a smooth transition, then Feaster was going to be shown the door.

Wonder who Assist GM is?

This reeks of an impatient ownership group. I have serious doubts as to whether Burke is the right man for this job -- he's one of those guys who thinks being decisive is the most important quality a GM should have -- but when you're rebuilding, being patient and watching how things develop just as important.

Burke has also been outspoken about Baertschi, I hope his days as a Flamee aren't numbered as I still see a lot of potential there.

Very dissapointing. Watch Burke snap up every big name UFA he can come July.... ugh.

If he is in fact looking at other GM's then I am less nervous.. I would not be opposed to a full scale coaching staff change as well.

Feaster was handed an aging, entitled roster and managed to initiate the process of turning towards the future. I'm not entirely sure it was his decision to hold onto Iginla and Kipper as long as they did, thereby diminishing any potential return, but he did have to bear the responsibility of trading the best player in franchise history. All in all his tenure was significant, and in my opinion largely positive. My two cents says the team is headed in the right direction, and I hope the new manager does not pursue a course which is heavy on the introduction of veteran players at the cost of young, however unproven prospects.

It was two deals that Feaster didn't pull off that ultimately led to his demise. The ill fated efforts to obtain Richards and O'Reilly. Thankfully neither of those deals came to fruition. Both would have had a significant long-term negative impact on the organization. It was only a matter of time before he was replaced after the O'Reilly fiasco.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling Mr. Feaster. Good luck to you and yours, sir.
