You'll probably get just as much back by returning to Amazon, no?

I sincerely hope I'm pointing out the painfully obvious here, but the lowest sale price is probably still higher than normal cost. This is how retailers make money.
They're not simply replenishing inventory as you make it seem.

What I find interesting is that the general tone of this thread makes this act out to be the evilest of evils, yet the general tone of any counterfeit jersey thread is "Reebok makes crap and it's overpriced, they deserve it".

So 14 months later, Costco still stocked this tv but it was now only $499. I returned it no questions asked. I even told them that i only wanted the $499 back but the Cashier wouldn't do it. She could only refund the entire $899 amount..... I felt kind of bad so i bought a hotdog.
I guess a whole bunch of other people also bought the same tv. 3 weeks later they implemented the 90 day return policy on electronics.
Sorry guys!

Costco is another retailer with a very liberal return policy.
Big difference is they know what you bought based on your card so you cant take something from X store and return it to Costco.
I know people who buy GPS go on a trip then return them and think that is an honourable thing to do. Its disgusting and those people should be ashamed. When I call them on it they say its legit and that they know person X who says its perfectly fine (its hard to argue with someone who knows some fictional person who works there who says its ok to defraud Costco).

Popular media informs me that this is a thing that many women do with expensive clothing; in particular, nice dressses. I have no real-world anecdotal evidence to support this position but it remains firmly held.

I did this with that shop.ca deal. Got the rebates, discounts, paypal money bought 4 games for around $100 and returned them all to Wal-Mart for store credit $260.
If they don't like it change your policy.

I'll admit, I've done it with that crappy xmas gift that I didn't want and took it to the place that I would get the best price for it.

And ethically, you don't see anything wrong with that? So if I bought some Flames tickets off you, and then resold them for over twice what I bought them from you for, you wouldn't have a problem with that.
The return policy isn't in place to allow for things like you did. It's to allow some flexibility for legitimate customers who have misplaced their receipts. But given enough time and behaviour like yours, no one will be able to return anything without a receipt. Atta strike a blow for the little guy!
If you don't have any qualms about it, then more power to you, I guess. Personally, I just hold myself to a higher moral standard, or perhaps I just have too much Catholic guilt from my childhood. If you so badly need $160, then perhaps you shouldn't be online shopping in the first place. Unless this was your intent all along, in which case, morality would seem to have no meaning anyways.

No, the policy exists so that if I buy something from Walmart, and then happen to lose the receipt; I have the option of returning it for a store credit.
It's also a reason I will be more inclined to shop somewhere with a good return policy. I am also more likely to buy something and decide when I get home if I really want it. Those things mean more business for the store.

How old is the OP? Not that something like this is "right" at any age, but I was pretty stupid and did things like this when I was in my late teens/very early 20's.
I actually used to consider myself quite the scam master "back in the day". I won't get into the whole story as it might give some youngins some bad ideas (not that you could even do this anymore, but I digress...), but I, I mean, some guy I used to know, managed to make (no joke or exaggeration) over $15K off of one of those Mac's "buy 4 cokes and get a free flames ticket" promo they used to do each year. That was in 2004 and it never happened again, but i don't think that was because of the scam, moreso because the Flames had their run that playoffs and tickets have been in demand ever since.
It was a pretty crazy scam though, it involved homeless people, paying high school kids, elaborate disguises, dropping 1000's of leaflets in every post secondary institution in this city and driving around for 3 days like a drug dealer, meeting people to sell tickets anywhere and everywhere, and at the end, $15+K, all in small bills, carryed around in a car glovebox!!

I know a guy who made over $500k buying Sailor Moon laserdiscs from Japan, hiring a couple japanese translators from the U of C and subbing them out onto VHS.
At one point he had 50 VCRs going at once and his basement was like 30c from the heat.

I think the frustration on my part is that continued abuse of liberal return policies by people who take advantage of them can lead to retailers taking away that privilege from everybody. (See Costco's TV policy for an example).

My policy is to put things on a shelf for self selection and not frisk people before they leave to see if they stole something. People do steal, so should I change my policy?
What you are doing is fraud. It's just as illegal. It's NOT a policy

Is anyone else not the least bit surprised that this is the sort of person Bertuzzied associates himself with? This fits exactly with the image in my head.
