Canada Post to stop home mail delivery
Looks like Canada Post is slowly going to get rid of urban home (door to door) mail delivery.

Canada Post said that over the next five years, it will eliminate 6,000 to 8,000 positions, but it expects 15,000 workers will leave the company or retire within that period.
The first communities that will switch to community mailboxes (CMBs) will be announced in the second half of 2014, according to the release.

Will be interesting to see how they roll this out, as the superboxes are a change to what the inner city folks are used to. The sheer volume of labour wasted on hand delivery always struck me as arcane, so this is a smart move for a crown corp that is perpetually losing money.
As someone who moved from a door-door delivery to a superbox last month (same community ironically), I find I get a lot more junk mail and I forget to get it for weeks at a time, but its nice not having to worry about it piling up while I'm away.

I feel bad for the delivery people, but I'm surprised this hasn't happened years ago.

I thought they did this year's ago, I haven't had to the door delivery for everyday mail since the late 90s.
I bet by 2020 they'll only deliver mail every second day in some parts of town.

Who remembers getting door to door milk delivery? I do.
I can still remember when we had door to door mail in Hawkwood, and then I believe the superboxes arrived in the 90's, no big deal as it was right at the end of our cul-de-sac (that's right, this latte-sipper was a yop gobbler!).
Ever since then it has been superboxes or mail boxes in the condos I was in, only once we moved to Sunnyside did we have door to door again.
No big deal for me to go back to the superbox.

Yup I remember houses were built with milk delivery slots. You used to get your milk and those awesome breakfast donuts.

Don't remember the last time I had door to door mail delivery. I doubt this will affect most too many people here.

I live in Hawkwood and get door to door delivery, it depends on when your house was built. IIRC anything built before 1990 still gets home delivery, and that is what's ending now.
Also, the price of stamps is going up to $0.85, or $1.00 if you just buy one at a time.

Door to door milk delivery was awesome. As kids we would go through insane amounts of milk and Beep every week.

That is funny since our home there was built in '87, Hawkford Place.
Oh and Slava I do remember it being bagged milk, it was the best.

I like flyers especially around this time of the year. I would actually tip the flyer boy if he didn't constantly deliver the flyers almost a week late.

I swear our current postie only works 2/3 days a week- some days we get a huge pile of mail and the others we get nothing. I think he saves it up for a couple days...
