Well... there were some bright spots tonight. Played pretty good for most of the game, then just got outclassed by a team that knows how to win. However, for most of the game we kept them off the scoreboard. Besides their 2 goals, they really didn't have too many chances. First goal, certainly can't blame anyone for, 2nd goal, equal ugliness for Brodie and Berra. It's frustrating, but that's how this team is going to be for a little while.
I hope Berra can find a way to close a game. Some people point out that a lot of goals aren't his fault, but that's the difference between an NHL goalie and AHL goalie. They have to bail a team out a few times a night to win. The thing is, he is capable of it, it just looks like a case of nerves to me almost. He does make some outstanding saves sometimes, but he needs to make those when we need it most.
Either way, we are definitely into the grind of the season now... we're really starting to see this teams weaknesses, but we can see a few strengths too. We need to score goals...

Easy thing not too do. They are trying to look forward not into the past. Iggy was great for the city but you don't want to be the oilers and build your new culture of days of yore. A lot of the flames now had what? half of a half season with him? or no experience at all . get real.

I was delighted at the sounds of the dome from the pre-game. Truly heartfelt. Was definitely impressed with the fans for the opening ovation.
Then I heard the crowd on the Bruins' goals late, ALMOST even thinking WE had scored on the Smith goal it was so #$!#ing loud. I think I threw up in my mouth a little. Absolutely DISGUSTED after that. Those fans should have been ejected and replaced with real Flames fans.
It's one thing to tip your hat to your former captain, another to abandon your team entirely and cheer for the team opposing you (in your own building) because of one player. Didn't know we had so many phoney bandwagoners here. Honestly the last thing I expected tonight.
Just an embarrassment to the fanbase, seriously. Get some backbone as fans and learn to cope with the tough times, or get out.

Our system is very effective when the players are comitted to it. We are a very good transistion team when we are pressing and forcing turnovers. Other teams have said as much, especially the quickness in our game.

I know we all love Rich Hasketh around here but do the Flames go full ###### every third? Or is there a lack of conditioning. I cant figure out why they look so gassed in the third every single game.

There's a few things I've seen on this thread that annoyed me.
1. The boos for Russell and cheers for the Bruins goals came mostly from the Bruins fans. There were a lot of them, and yes, some of them are bandwagon fans, but they're an original 6 teams so obviously they will have more fans there than usual.
2. Anyone (and there's only a few) who had a problem with the fans cheering Iginla all game needs to give their heads a shake.
3. How can you blame Berra? You can't win too many hockey games scoring only 1 goal. I thought he had a pretty solid game.
Now that I got that off my chest, just wanted to say it was awesome to be a part of that crowd. What a great game. Would have liked a Flames win but just the overall class of the fans, Iginla, and the Bruins organization made it much more enjoyable.
Still waiting on the full 60 minute effort but I thought the first 40 was fantastic. This is a really likeable team IMO. I'm really excited for the future.

I assume the people who think it was Flames fans cheering for the Boston goal are really young and don't understand that there are a lot of fans of all the original six teams in western Canada. There are tons of Bruins fans at every Flames home game and this was no different.
If you don't want the other teams fans in the saddledome get off your butt and buy some tickets.

So because Rask let in a bad goal I should give Berra a free pass and consider it a 1-0 game? I doubt Bruins fans would feel the same if the score was reversed so I'm not.

This game was a memorable one for me. I had three of my best friends over and they all said that was the first time they saw me cry. I truly did get teary eyed at the start when we honored Iginla. So proud of the Dome and the loved we showed him. I guess after seeing this game I realize how much I did love Iggy as a captain. His emotion, work ethic, and off ice demeanor should earn every hockey fan and players respect. I hope he wins the cup he deserves in Boston, and I hope we as fans win that cup we deserved in 04. GFG.

Yet we've seen some great push backs by the Flames late in the game. I don't think it's conditioning and wonder if maybe nerves get the better of them sometimes when they have a lead in the third period. They can grind it out with any team when thier focus is there.

The whole team was bad in third period and not just Berra. All share some of the blame for this loss.

Agreed. This is what good teams do to bad teams. Flames had a gutsy performance and I can handle the loss where they work their tails off defensively.
