Yahoo reports that the deal will send Kings forwards Travis Outlaw, Patrick Patterson, and point guard Greivous Vasquez to Toronto....

will have to see what really shakes out

Funny thing is that this might make the Raps better.

I like the deal because if nothing else it gets rid of Gay who was always going to have the Raptors stuck in mediocrity with him and his cap hit on the team. Plus him and DD were a terrible fit since both loved shooting bad shots and both loved ignoring the defensive end.

Salmons and Hayes are just contracts and should be gone after this season if not earlier. Vazquez could be a fine replacement short term if they are able to get rid of Lowry.

The team needed to go all in (which would have been a bad move) or start dumping the deadweight. Good to see them go the right way and hopefully this will be the first of many moves. Would be nice to see Lowry and DD gone as well.

Heh, this is as close to an undo button on the original Gay trade as you can get, with Vazquez being a young Calderonesque player, and Patterson being a similar type of PF (slightly lower upside) than Davis.

No idea if it improves them or hurts them short-term. I expect DeRozan's output to drop with Gay no longer drawing the other team's top defenders, but there's the potential for Raptors' offensive efficiency to improve sharply. Contract-wise, it's perfect, you drop that risk of $19 million next season, down to just $6 million. Vazquez is not only a decent backup/starter, he's also a decent trade chip as the season continues and other teams get injury issues.

Masai was right on when he said that the Raptors had too many of the same player. In a championship team, Gay is a perfect 4th option, but on this team, there's too much pressure for him as the #1. Tanking will pay huge dividends next year to say the least, so I'm not sad to see a somewhat talented player go. Now if some more of the mediocre players like Lowry and maybe Amir, can be dealt, the tank will be full on, and it also gives a chance for the lessers to put up some better points. I'd go with a 12 man rotation though, rather than using a 6 starters type of scenario. It takes the pressure off Jonas, Ross and DeRozan to produce, while tanking. There has to be other shoes to drop from this.

Love it. Just flush them down the toilet. Casey, Lowry , Amir , DD. move any of them and just kick Casey as hard in the arse as possible. That might jar his brain and help in his next career.

That's actually not bad value for Gay. I didn't think he was tradeable at all, let alone actually having some value.

He should be up for GM of the year for getting what he did for Bargniani and Gay. Wow. Can't believe he got that.

DD and Lowry will have to pass the ball inside more. Otherwise they won't get any looks themselves because teams will key on them. Good.

I hope this is something of a message to Casey to get JV more touches offensively though. If not, then he has to be the next one to go.

A little love for Amir last night, I know the Lakers interior defense is butter soft, but 32 points on 17 shots with 10 board is still a hell of a night. I'd rather the Raptors keep him unless they can get great value back.

Glad Gay is gone. Hopefully Jonas can get more touches now.

Let's not go overboard as Raptor fans and say that Masai did something great. We've seen it time and time again that really no contract is untradeable when any player is seen as having the potential to turning it around once traded. It's not like he got an all-star back. I understand the cap implications, so no need to go there, but there was bound to be someone willing to take on his contract - there always is. Not the first, not the last. Even Colangelo did this a bunch of times.

He got rid of that atrocious contract with Gay playing at an all time low. Not only did he do that, but the only salary that runs past this year is Chuck Hayes at 6 million. Not something great, but its definitely something surprising considering Gay's value.

His job isn't done yet though. For this team to be successful in the future I want a good tank with one of the big prospects coming to Toronto. I want one of Parker, Wiggins, Randle. Hell I'd be happy with Exum (who I know little about, but have heard good things about) or Marcus Smart, maybe even Emblid.

This likely means that Lowry (expiring) and DeRozan (while his value is high) are gone. Maybe in Val if the offer is there. No one on this team should be untouchable.

After all the stuff Colangelo has put the Raptors through, this is a good time to fix his wrong doings, by tanking in the perfect draft to tank in.

Rumour has it that MU is working on obtaining a 2nd pick this year. Mid lotto. Chicago could certainly use a PG(Lowry) and they have their own pick and another one as well(Bobcats I believe). Cleveland has to be dissapointed with how they have progressed(landing spot for DD?). There is certainly opportunity to unload more players and pull off a fast rebuild. 2 picks this year in a super strong draft. Then another pick next year. Combine that with the youth they have and a lot of financial flexibility and they may be able to pull it off in three years.

Knicks, Nets and Dubs are interested in Lowry.

What could they offer? Knicks and Nets have no picks left to trade, don't know about the Dubs.

Its insane to me that the Knicks don't have a first rounder until 2018 and I think the Nets only have one first in that time frame. Word is the Raptors want Tim Hardaway Jr. from the Knicks. Strangely if I was the Knicks and I saw Masai's number come up I just wouldn't answer if the Bargnani trade.

Maybe the Knicks are hoping Masai's calling to take Bargnai back.

And I also forgot he robbed them blind in the Carmelo trade. Masai making a trade with the Knicks sounds like it'll be good for the Raptors.

Right, that's twice in a row. It'll be fun to see it happen for an encore of an encore. To be fair, with the way the Knicks trade, it's hard not to come out ahead dealing with them.

Yeah, it sucks that the Nets and Knicks are soooo bare on prospects and picks, because otherwise a trade with them would be great: kills three birds with one stone tank-wise: hurt your own performance, get assets for the future, and help to ensure that those teams won't continue to suck and get ahead of you in the draft.

I'd be patient and see what other teams get involved. The Nets and Knicks offers are likely the floor on the Lowry return, but with a bit of patience you can probably improve on those returns.
