That money pic was taken not long after the Canes cup was it not? The dude looks like he's never touched a bench press or done a sit-up in his life. Unless he's like Kingpin and all those belly rolls are actually pure muscle.

The face that this guy got that big contract shows how being big is overrated in the NHL. He's fun and seems like a guy you'd want to drink with... but he was a borderline NHLer... not a guy who needs to get paid.

I expect the Detroit Red Wings to address these accusations immediately and anything short of Babcock being terminated would be a mockery. No organization should condone this kind of discrimination.

Also expect the Canadian national team to terminate him and name a replacement for Sochi asap.

Yikes. It really seems like that big contract went straight to his head.

You can put forth a country's marriage statistics all you want, but like I said, I seriously don't think there are too many 30+ year old NHL single guys. There is such thing a social stigma and IMO it's safe to assume that the NHL has their own cultural norm that is different from the average Canadian or American. So if there are very few 30+ year old single guys in the NHL they are going to stick out like a sore thumb. It's entirely plausible that a single 30 year old NHL player is viewed differently than a 30 year old NHL player with a wife and kids.

Isn't that part of Commodore's point? I quote: "The coach (Arniel) was jealous because he played a lot of years, he had a wife and kids and he felt he didn't earn a lot of money so he booted me off the team." Commodore was saying that Arniel was jealous because despite playing a lot of NHL games Arniel felt he didn't earn enough money. Again, this is entirely plausible. We've heard a lot of retired hockey players complain about the money they earned vs the money the players are making now.

That's a lot of what-ifs and special-case scenarios.

But what's more possible. Jealous coaches coming together to conspire against the hard-done-by Mike Commodore....or a mediocre player simply being cut and/or traded by a team because he's not that good... just like he had been his whole career, similar to a familiar scenario that happens all the time with every NHL team?

The guy should be counting his lucky stars, not complaining about not getting his due.

Geezus, come on. Commodore didn't end up playing in Russia because he's single. He's there because he can't play in the NHL. He's on his seventh team (and third league) in four years. Did they all drum him out because he's not married? No, they didn't.

Every player on the Bluejackets made more money than Scott Arniel ever did as a player, yet he managed to put an entire roster on the ice every night. Where was the jealousy for everyone else on the team?

Commodore questioning Mike Babcock's hockey smarts is just plain stupid. There's no other way around that.

The guy is no good anymore. That's it. Hell, he never really was and now he's 34. It's not jealousy, it's not his single status, it's not the best coach in the world childishly trying to get back at him.

How does something like this actually warrant a serious discussion?

It seems you're having a hard time separating facts. The possibility of Arniel hating Commodore because he was single and rich does not preclude the possibility that Commodore sucks.

Again, Commodore only pointed the finger at Arniel and not at everyone. Commodore didn't say there was a conspiracy.

Not sure what you're trying to get at. Arniel was a rookie NHL coach and there was some controversy between him and a few other players besides Commodore. Interestingly, Commodore averaged over 18+ minutes when he wasn't made a healthy scratch.

The other way around that is that Commodore never questioned Babcock's hockey smarts. Commodore only accused Babcock of not being truthful with him.
