Best way for me to say it is that I don't feel comfortable playing Butler in key situations. Granted, injuries to our d men has greatly increased his ice time and as a result put him in situations I don't think Hartley would have him in.

The other one that's been posted here is for the third jersey maybe? Or home? I know a couple goalies who have road and away masks. Luongo does for certain.
And I know Belfour did as well when he was with Dallas and Toronto.

I know sh***y reffing is to be expected on a regular basis but the Flames really don't need the help to be cast down to the bottom of the conference this year.

I thought Hemsky dove on that freaking tripping penalty by Colborne. Oilers wouldn't scored tonight if the referee did their job calling an interference on Blair Jones' empty net shot. He was watching the play too so I thought it was BS that he didn't call it. Oh well game is over and we still won.

The thing that gets me with Butler... is he has no gray area. He either makes a great play, or he makes a bad play. Tonight, I thought he made some great plays that maybe saved a goal, then he makes a bad play and causes a goal.
He has no balance in his game.. can he develop it, maybe.
I thought he played well tonight, not great, but good enough

That would actually make sense (with the color scheme and western theme). I hope he wears the new one with the regular home and away jerseys (and retires the Flames/Heat mask).

CBC Edmonton news just reported Larry Hudler scored the winner in OT lol
Oilers seem pretty happy with their effort "live to fight another day" was the quote from Hall. Do these guys even realize how far away they are from even a sniff at a playoff spot

I am not disputing that. I am not comfortable with Butler either and yes if Wideman is playing, we would have seen the top 4 D defending the lead.

Another unintiated! Very well, your education begins now.
The Butler Curse is as follows:
1.)Butler's Curse - Butler will always disappoint.
A.) Corollary - Butler's Law: If Butler does not disappoint, it will only be to set up a greater disappointment later.
B.) Inference - Butler's Voodoo Jinx: The more someone speaketh highly of the Butler, the quicker that Butler disppoints.

Went to the game and have the following comments:
1) the Oiler faithful is a pretty angry bunch at the Oiler organization. Lots of yelling about Lowe, Eakins and MacTavish.
2) Lance Bouma was solely responsible for making Yakupov disappear. He just missed creaming Yakupov in the second period along the boards in the Flames zone. He made a big noise hitting the glass. Yakupov jumped out of the way and wanted no part of the boards the rest of the game. Even the Oiler fans around us remarked how effective Bouma was tonight, and more than a couple of comments about how Bouma is exactly the player the Oilers need.
3) that Larson kid on the Oilers blueline was far and away the best skater on the ice. Have no idea where he came from, but that guy is a player. Only Oiler defenceman who can hit a forward tape to tape at pace. Watch for him long term.
4) gadzic wanted no part of McGratton tonight. Shane O Brien was also effective at chirping the Oilers and cleaning up in front.
5) Flames left the slot open all night. Had the Oilers had any player with jam trying to get to the front of the net, it would have been lights out for us.
6) backlund had a good game. Don't know if the TV caught it or not but on a few occasions he was battling up the ice behind the play with an Oiler, and pushing an Oiler around. Surprising it was him to be honest.
7) it became a running joke how fast Butler would give up the blueline on every rush. I told my little cousin to watch for it and every single time Butler would give it up.
8) took my little cousin to the game. Flames fan living in a town outside of Edmonton. First ever NHL game. Awesome we got a win.

Just let the Butler hate flow through you. It's warm and fuzzy and makes you feel all nice. Seriously though, dude needed to be jettisoned last season. The Flames don't need him. Too many brain farts...always with the brain farts. Stinks up the place. I really hope to see him in another Jersey by the end of the season.
Hudler is God (or wizard as I prefer mostly). I think he's going to grow into a huge fan favorite even more so than he is now. Such a quality character. And super easy to makes awesome Gif's about too. Which is an added bonus.
Russell again tonight with strong play. Although there was a great deal of puck luck on the OT goal. Still a solid move.
I like Berra a ton. I'm getting the feeling though that the Flames are going to have a good problem with the two goalies during the course of this season. Both are appearing to be settling in now. Things could get positively interesting the rest of the year.
I also agree with whoever's been saying get Gio and Smid on a shutdown pairing. Needs to happen.
And one last thing, SOB must be playing decent hockey the last couple games because no one's said much about him.

I think the Oil got him back in the Horcoff trade, IIRC.
Him and a 7th for Horcoff?

Smid - Giordano has great synergy. Plus Gio's quick enough to join the rush & Smid's a good stay-at-home dman go cover. Could open up alternate breakout patterns.

Where? In the minors? On the Sabres? He was a top pairing d-man under Brent. Chris Butler has used up all of his good grace in just the past 2 games, nevermind his other work with the Flames (-7). These are games against teams that were bottom feeders last season.

Not related directly to the game, but the Flames have 2 of the NHLs 3 point per game defensemen.
Giordano, 11 points in 11 games
Billins, 2 points in 2 games
Some other guy has 1 point in 1 game.
