Maybe twitter with #abflood #yycflood? Lots of people following those topics still, and maybe someone will recognize the dog.

I checked up on this thread thinking that the dog has found its owners because the title was changed.

First of all, great job on rescuing this animal.

Take it to Calgary Humane Society. I am a Red Cross volunteer and that is protocol. Not everyone is on FB and Twitter.

Please take it there ASAP. They then reference databases of the Red Cross and City registrations. We ask ALL evacuees if they have any lost pets and any info is put in the data base.

I appreciate the thought that social media can help find it but there are thousands of Calgarians that are not involved in social media.

Thanks again for your compassion for this dog.

Hello 14. Again, we are in dialouge with the Calgary Humane Society. Be advised, they are at capacity and can't take anymore animals. They prefer that we keep him until room for an animal his size is available or till we find the original owner or a new one. We have contacted vets through the area. We have contacted animal support groups. We are involved with the Prairie Pit Bit Rescue. We have it covered.

Thanks for the support now share the news for this found puppy!

*UPDATE

So after approaching many organizations, and trying to get the word out as best we could, we couldn't find the owners, but we found a more permanent place to foster and possibly ADOPT! (If enough time passes without finding the original family.) The family have had the pup, affectionately named buddy, for a few days and they said they already love him and want to keep him.

We believe he was a stray at least a week before the flood, as there were numerous reports of a big black dog roaming around then. The flood helped this puppy find a home.

I got my dog from Prairie Pitbull Rescue. Have gotten to volunteer at a few events, great group of people! Glad you found something more permanent if the original owners can't be found.

Final Update*

Buddy has officially been kept by the adoptive family. Proof below. Poor Buddy.

But he recovered and is gently tucked in for bedtime.

Thanks for allowing me to share this story. It's feel good one that I was lucky to be a part of...

Rescue an animal. Seriously, just go to your neighbors house and rescue the poor beast. Then put up posters of the lost pet. You feel sooo much better about yourself once you see the families re-united. If you don't get contacted you know they don't care and you for-sure did the right thing so you can find them a good home...

Seriously, rescuing an animal feels great and getting the updates is an emotional experience. I recommend it.

Awesome, great job. I don't know quite how to express it, but an act of kindness towards and animal is worth 10x an act of kindness towards a fellow human. Strictly IMO.

Mrs. B and I are considering contributing to charities instead of sending gifts and the SPCA is at the top of my list.
