If those goofs down at the Flames office would follow some sort of protocol, get his name on the dotted line of teams he'd be willing to go to, we likely aren't having this conversation now, Iginla likely has a stanley cup to his credit and we're likely watching Bartkowski be one of our top prospects alongside Brodie, praying kochlachev (SP?) doesn't take off for Mother Russia.

Instead, it's lamentations for all.
Are you saying Boston wins the cup last year with Iggy? I dont know he wasn't very good in the playoffs

He did trip over the jersey and whiff on the empty net chance so best game ever might be an overstatement.

I don't know if any team was going to deny the Blackhawks last year.

At the deadline, Pittsburgh appeared the 'easier' team, with Boston being 'the better fit'.

I can't say whether it would or wouldn't have put Boston over the top, but, Iginla was always a better fit in Boston than Pittsburgh. Probably one of the reason's Boston signed him this offseason while Pittsburgh didn't extend an offer. Boston's offer was also significantly better than Pittsburgh's.

It's the--critical--fault of flames management that they didn't get him to sign his trade waiver with his two possible destination teams, the protocol when orchestrating a trade involving a no-trade clause. This is a business with a heavy reliance on contracts, and signing the waiver is simply protocol.

That they didn't do it is just another indictment of the ineptitude of the management structure in Calgary.

So please tell me why Iginla would sign this waiver and why his agent would advise him to sign a waiver he doesn't have to. Please keep in mind it was the Flames who asked him to move, and not Iginla's idea.

So why would he give up the rights he bargained for when it didn't give him a choice. You know... part of the reason why players get a NTC.

How people continue to #### on the best Flame of all time and one of the classiest players in league history is ridiculous.

Boo hoo, he wanted to play with the best player in the world, get over it

Million's was walking around the dome yesterday doing interviews with fans in Iginla jerseys asking them about their thoughts on his return.

He interviewed some blonde chick and she apparently blew him away with her answer I've never seen him so enthusiastic about a response, I was taking money out and didn't catch it but he said it should be aired on Tuesday.

Iggy was interviewed this morning on the Fan with Boomer and Rhett.

Sorry don't know how to link things properly

Talks about how the trade to Pitt went down, his summer back here after the flood helping out and not know where he was going, how he approached Boston. Pokes fun at Rhett a couple times
Lots of what we read in the Calgary Herald artical. It was nice to just hear him laugh

I'm totally ok with people being upset at the way Iginla handled his trade, because it wasn't good. A list should be a list.

Not his fault.

Employers fault for not making a 'list' into a 'list'.

Yeah it was a good interview and the first time Iggy ever did one in his car while driving which was funny. At the end of the day a really good guy that was no longer a good fit for the direction of the team. It happens in sports.

The list was a list. It was also a situation where Feaster gave Iginla the opportunity to choose:

http://sports.nationalpost.com/2013/...rade-was-done/

Quote:
When general manager Jay Feaster approached Iginla about possibly trading him to benefit the struggling Flames, the Edmonton native obliged by waiving the no-trade clause in his contract and provided the GM with a select list of teams he would consent to join.

From the three offers under consideration, Iginla and Feaster chose Pittsburgh, a star-studded team featuring superstars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Iginla assisted on Crosby’s overtime winner that gave Canada an Olympic gold medal in men’s hockey at the 2010 Vancouver Games.

“I talked to Jay and wanted it to be a mutual thing that they were happy with the deal they got,” Iginla explained. “If I was going to leave here, I wanted the best opportunity to try to win.
Despite attempts to revise history, this was never a case of the Flames saying "we've got a deal with Boston" and Iginla saying "I changed my mind". This was always a case of the Flames saying "we've got deals with Boston and Pittsburgh, lets choose which is best for both of us."

The Flames could have simply refused the Penguins offers and told Iginla "we have a deal with Boston". The team, to its credit, gave a guy who was a warrior for the team for 16 years - and very well could have saved the franchise - the chance to have a greater say in the result of the trade.

I guess it is who you believe. At a season ticket holder session it was mentioned that Flames wanted the Boston deal but Iginla wanted to go to Pittsburgh, as mentioned he wanted to go with the hot hand. They spent a number of hours trying to convince him but in the end went with the Pittsburgh deal to appease Iginla. They also mentioned that the agent advised him of a fifth team that wasn't on the initial list that Jarome would consider.

I really don't think it was revisionist history at all.

Exactly...I don't know why there's any confusion around the issue. As Iggy said himself in the interview, it was known that Feaster liked Boston's return better but Iggy preferred to join Pitt, so Feaster honoured Iggy's preference. Sure, you can argue that Feaster did not do what was best for the team instead of Jarome, but I suppose Iggy earned the right to choose...

Revisionist, or not, it is history. I hope Iggy gets a great standing O and then does nothing out there in a 3-1 win for the Flames.

I am definitely looking forward to the crowd reaction for Iginla, as he didn't really get a proper send off like Kipper did. Granted, Kipper was retiring - but I still think it'll be nice for the fans to show Iginla some similar appreciation. Expecting goosebumps.

If it's a 3-1 Cgy win, I wouldn't mind if that lone Bos goal came at the hands of Iggy...

Agreed. Anyway Hanowski, Agostino and Klimchuk score for the flames?

I hope Iginla fights Butler, completing the Gordie Howe hat trick in a 3-2 win for the Flames.
