No, but the simple truth is, we don't have twelve 50-goal forwards, six #1 defencemen and two Olympic gold medal winning goaltenders in our organization. And all the whining and bitching when we bring up guys who aren't future 50-goal scorers, #1 defencemen or Olympic gold medal winning goaltenders is tired and lame.

Like it or not, there is still a role on this team - and in this league - for a guy who plays 6 minutes a night, crashes in the corners and punches the odd face. McGrattan was always going to be replaced by someone with a similar skill set.

I get that there are a couple teams in the league that don't have a Grats in their lineup (it might only be one, Detroit?) but there are definitely ZERO teams in the league that don't have an enforcer in the lineup unless they are absolutely full of high-level talent and a few guys who can fill the role in different ways.
If Calgary had a few real bangers that had some talent, then we wouldn't likely need McDermid, but the Flames don't. McD fills a necessary role so long as Grats is out, and really, there wouldn't be much point in bringing in one of the skill guys or someone who isn't quite ready just to get trounced on the 4th line.

And you're basing this off of what? His 20 career NHL games that he has 4 points in?

He's supposed to be a pretty tough grinder with a slight offensive upside, I see no issue with them having a couple guys like that in the lineup. There's no way he'll be worse than Jackman.
